Can we have a nice, happy, thread here in GD? With some pics?
From doom and gloom to arguing, flame wars, sick and demented people (I cover those folks a lot) to the evil in chief it just all seems a downer.

Tell us something happy about your life, something good, what keeps ya going and in the fight, who do you love, what do you like, etc and so on.

Other than beer, post a pic if you like of something that brings you happiness, makes you filled with joy, or just something cool. Let's take a short break from all the immigration, bush, etc and have a little fun.

Here are two things that keep me going and happy:
DU'er AutumnMist:

Our Daughter.

(my pic is on my journal page, but I am not as cute)

Wife wants to learn how to play, so I figure I will as well. I love music, I just suck at it :) I can't even sing in the shower without my dogs screaming and leaping out the window to their certain demise...

47. Singing with a guitar is so wonderful ......
Once you get past the early frustration, the guitar can take you away. Learn a few basic chords and you can sing every song known to man. Or you can write your own songs!

Singing is such an intimate activity. You guys can then learn to harmonize with each other and see how THAT feels.

Most people think they can't sing when their main obstacle is only self-consciousness.

Anyway your post made me happy tonight and I'm so grateful for music..... and musicians

PS: I expect occasional musical progress reports from both of you.

College degree, tree hugging hippie, and spent a lot of time helping others from aids clinics to social work (is a housewife now and is homeschooling our daughter through local schools - new program they have where it is all free but she is still considered a student of public schools). Me, I am just a nerd with computers and midrange systems, with theology and math as hobbies. I am about as dull as a rusted knife.

13. What a great idea!
I have no pics but I can happily report that I am a member of a growing antiwar group and we are attracting local media attention. :woohoo:

We protest twice a week and every time we have more people join our group. On Tuesdays, we stand at one of the busiest intersections here in KC and tonight, 99% of the cars that drove by honked for peace. The sound was deafening and absolutely wonderful.

The masses are waking up and I think that is fabulously good news.

I wonder what caused the ruptured gal bladder? Probably eating rocks? LOL.

The beagle, Sam, belongs to my next door neighbor and I always say his nose and mouth is going to get him in trouble. He can smell food a mile away. Bella, my Shar Pei mix, is Sam's best friend. We live in the same condo building so they grew up together.

Beagles are great dogs.

91. Thank you so much for the kind words
It was a few weeks I never want to live through again. When a dog stops eating, that is THE sign of something wrong, sometimes terribly wrong. We love her so much and we will do whatever it takes to keep her happy and healthy. Good thing we have a rainy-day fund.

Your dogs are made for each other, you can tell. You are so good to have them together. And yes, the Beagle nose is like no other. LOL.

40. Absolutely--
I didn't even WANT kids, and then I got pregnant and decided to give it a shot, and it was the best decision of my life.

My daughter has the ability to make me feel wonderful no matter what--with a goofy new word, or a cute face, or the way she says "you okay?" when I look down, or the way she rests her little tiny hand on my head when I am pretending (or sometimes really lol) to sleep on her bed...

Ah, there's nothing better...

28. I Love My Two Sons. More Than I Thought I Could Love Anything.
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 10:39 PM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
I love my wife; I love my cats (though one far more than the other); I love songs with powerful lyrics that reach inside me and touch my emotions, though the genre of such music can stretch from mozart, to enya, to the grateful dead, to alan parsons project, to ozzy, to even filter. I love playing my keyboard and writing love songs; I love the end of Rudy. I love Rocky I, II, and IV. I love touchingly powerful dramatic scenes in movies and tv. I love a beautiful sunset, rainbow, starry filled sky, ray of light shining through clouds, gentle southwesterly breeze, and nature being nature. I love thunderstorms while no ones around to see me gawk at their power. I love beautiful eyes and soul generated smiles. I love strength from those who appear weak. I love hearing 'hugs dada' and 'Iiiii Luvvvvv uuuuuuuuuu dadaaaa'. I love seeing my children learn, and discover, and be in awe of the world in ways we've forgotten. I love a cigarette after a job well done. I love a good nap when there's nothing else that needs to be done to make me feel guilty about it. I love helping others. I love coming through in seemingly impossible ways, when that coming through means the world to somebody no matter how trivial the desire seemed. I love making stranger's kids smile and laugh. I love the dark. I love meditating in the dark with perfect quiet while staring up at the ceiling with some candles and incense burning. I love hockey. I really really love hockey. I love a good cup of coffee. I love DU. I love teaching others. I love learning. I love discovering how much more I need to learn. I love being warm. I love the sun shining brightly on my face. I love the river in my backyard. I just love all that is beautiful and good.

38. Ha!
Cause the other one, though sweet as can be, just sleeps literally all the time curled up where you can't see her, doesn't engage herself with you at all, is jittery at the slightest movement, and overall just makes you forget she's even around, except for the 10 seconds she shows up when you pop open a can of food lol. I love her, she's sweet as can be, but literally you wouldn't even know she was in the house at all on most days. Now our other cat, is not only sweet as can be and beautiful to boot, but has a personality like no other cat I've ever seen. Had to take him to the vet 2 weeks ago, and when I went to pick him up the vet and his assistant even said "he's one of the absolute coolest cats we've ever had in here". I smile and said "yup, that's my skittles!" :)

45. My dogs as weird too
Bailey is hyper (She is the Jack Russell on my journal) and just loves to get into things, bite me, sleep on my chest, and play until I am wore out.

Buster is more laid back and sweet. Will lick you and then curl up under the blankets with you. His main weird thing though is the tree in the back yard, He runs around it for 8+ hours a day barking as he can smell the squirrels that have been there. That is all he does outside now. Does not play with the ball, or anything, just barks and bites the tree.

41. How Cute! - Here are a few animal pics...

School lunch: A baby squirrel nurses on milk from a syringe at Stroudsburg High School in Pennsylvania's Poconos. Kathy Uhler, a teacher who also runs Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, takes the little rodent and 18 other abandoned squirrels, all about 2 weeks old, to class in order to care for them. The squirrels need to be fed around the clock.

And to think I used to eat acorns: The mysterious weight gain of the squirrels of Elyria, Ohio, is no longer a mystery.

Poppy bear: Cinnamon takes time to smell the flowers at the California Living Museum in Bakersfield.

Peas. You shouldn't have: Happy birthday No. 2, Makasi! The San Diego Zoo feted the little bonobo with paper bags and cardboard boxes filled with popcorn, peas, walnuts and biscuits.

Doggy Parton: A buxom Yorkshire terrier named Savannah is gussied up for a dog show beauty contest in Bogota.

Sourpuss: A Persian feline at an international cat show in Sofia, Bulgaria, does its best impression of Wilford Brimley.

Primate and mate: A stray tabby named T.K. nuzzles Tonda at Zooworld near Panama City Beach, Fla. The two have become fast friends since T.K. moved into the orang's quarters two months ago. Tonda had been lonely since losing her mate two years ago.

54. After it rained all day and after I had some unpleasant
exchanges with other DUers, the sun came out in the evening. The trees and plants were still sparkling with rain drops, and the woods that I can see from my windows were bathed in an eerie golden glow. I looked up at the sky behind the woods. It had turned a soft lavender and there was a rainbow.

I felt like I had been dropped in a skittles commercial. It made me feel quite giddy, especially with a little blue jay flitting around. It was almost fairyland like for about twenty minutes. Then the sun disappeared behind a hill and it was all over with.

Monkey Love

There is no title I can give this one that will do it justice.

Here I am, being held by my mom, standing in the yard of my grandparent's Kentucky home, with grandma holding our puppy Gigi. My mom and her parents worked for the Kennedy family in Kentucky- for both JFK and RFK's presidential campaigns.

Here's my dad, in uniform, in 1962. He resents that men like him, raised on a rural farm, were taken to Vietnam and spoiled brats like shrubbie got to hide behind his daddy. As you can probably assume, I come from a very Democratic family!

Does it have a server with an IP that is running some web software (IIS, Apache, et al)?

If Not I can host it for you (though I am using solely IP for now and not a www name and re-working the webserver this weeked for static IP, which is why my pics are up and down...such is life, ISP is an idiot).

119. This was October 28,1968 around Noon. The SDS-HSP
of the University of Iowa (the anarchist faction of the SDS) had just blockaded the Marine recruiters with a sit-in on the second floor of the Memorial Union and we decided to play them some music. There were other guitars there too and a handful of kazoos and we were playing various derisive tunes and improvisations on patriotic melodies. The Dean of Students was busy trying to get us to move but we sat and ignored him. We also mocked the Marines who had used cigarette lighters in Viet Nam to torch village homes by using their recruitment literature to light our cigarettes (and a cover joint someone had). We finally moved along after we had made our statement. The Marines had to reschedule appointments for the next two days!! I had also just gotten engaged to someone I loved very dearly at that time (though we alas called it off in late Spring). Just a great time for me!
