Oh, HERK!!
This is my new all-purpose word. In less than an hour, the word "herk" has evolved from an emotionally-motivated misspelling of "jerk" to a word as versatile as "fuck" without the overt obscenity. Herk has many uses:

Noun: ZombieNixon is a herk
• Definition: according to my results on a few quizfarm tests I took, a herk is a person who a) is agnostic b) would be chaotic good if (s)he were a D&D character and c) has an evilness level comparable to that of most decent human beings.

Adjective: Every day, ZombieNixon gets herkier.
• Definition: of, or pertaining to, a herk. Also, apparently, physically fit.

Verb: This herks!
• Definition: not sure, but you can't deny that it makes a good verb.

And, of course, an interjection: Oh, herk!

Ladies and gentlemen of the Lounge...I give you...HERK!

:applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause:

3. It's a neologism by sci-fi writer Larry Niven
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 08:43 PM by Hardhead
From his novel Ringworld, an acronym for the phrase, "There Ain't No Justice." The protagonist, Louis Wu, often says 'Tanj!' and occasionally even 'Tanj dammit!'

Despite Niven's obvious hopes, the word never caught on, and usage is a surefire indicator of extreme geekdom.

4. I see.
I've never read any Larry Niven, amazingly.

But, I do think that "herk" makes a good SF curse word. :P

7. It does, indeed
The original Ringworld novel is a great read, big fun. The two sequels are not as strong, but still fascinating. For all I know, he may have written subsequent sequels after those.

If someone would make a movie of Ringworld, I'd be so herkin' happy I'd shit myself.

17. Well, let's try it out: Herk off! (works: synonym:f*ck)
Herk on! (Works: Synonym: Rock)
Herkstick! (Works)
Herkball! (Works)
Herktard! (Works)
Herkectomy! (Works)
O, herk! (mmmm not really, perhaps Herkstix as a substitute?)
Seriously, that man is herked in the head (Doesn't work well as "seriously, that man herked in the head" which is an interesting verb use of it, don't you think?)

Too make it work, you need to hear it a few times though...

42. When I first opened this thread
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 10:38 PM by Liberalynn
I was thinking of Hercules too like Goddess of Guiness. Only not the cartoon version, but the live action television version of the 90's. Because believe it or not, Kevin Sorbo fans, used to spell the shortened nickname of Herc as Herk. The K being for Kevin of course.

Lame  I know but I was a huge fan of the show and the actor. He's still okay just didn't enjoy him as much in Andromeda as I did when he played HerK.

Interesting and useful alternate definition though.
