Do you still use audio-cassette tape?

Poll question: Do you still use audio-cassette tape?

I had a culture shock on Sun., when I went out looking for audio-cassette tape. I hadn't bought any for a couple of years as I had previously bought a metric buttload of tape.

No blank tape in the big box store.

Went to a big box, appliance, electronics store -- the salesman looked at me like I was asking for 8-track. "Nobody even has tape decks anymore except in their car..." No shit Sherlock, we like to tape music to listen to in the car.

Now, I do make CD's too, but am I that far behind the times?

2. Heck, even Mall-Wart still carries it

I've found it at Worst Buy, too. Walgreen's had it last I looked, chrome-dioxide Maxell XLII. Radio Shack usually carries a Type II (chrome) formulation, avoid Type I (ferric oxide) as it's noisier.

I still use cassette decks on occasion, especially being a collector of 70's stereo gear. I still use reel-to-reel, too.

5. I had checked a Walmart

but it was in the big city of Columbus, and I bet that our local one out here in the sticks still carries it.

I usually get Maxell UR (I think it's a type II), since we only listen to tapes in the crappy car stereo.

We buy most of our music on Vinyl and copy it to CD and/or tape (with all the nostalgic pops and hiss preserved).

3. Wouldn't we still need audio cassette tapes for tape recorders.

Or, are tape recorders obsolete too?
