What Do You Do When You've Been an Idiot?
How can I be such an idiot? Sometimes I just get too carried away and then I feel so stupid.

So, what do the rest of you do? Do I just put my feet back on the ground and keep going?

Am I the only one who feels really stupid sometimes?

3. Move in with your mom
Try to get back on your feet while she's constantly barking at you, lose your job and develop a crippling depression, then discover that most antidepressants give you severe panic attacks.

For a fuller effect, make sure the people you call your friends are self-absorbed, insecure twits who can't be bothered for emotional support.

That's what I do.

7. I guess that it depends
on how much the particular exercise of idiocy cost.

(and not just in money)

but there's no helping it, at some point one has to move on.

10. I consider it just another day.
Don't beat yourself up - life happens. Besides, in a little while, you'll be brilliant. Hopefully, someone around you will notice. :)

11. Thank You All So Much! That Really Helped.
Today is a new day and I think I may have been the only one to notice what an idiot I was.

I can't take antidepressants either. Side effects are too much for me.

And I'm not married so divorce is out.

Full speed ahead and damn the torpedoes.

shake my head at myself, feel mortified for a minute or two, apologize if called for and move on.

15. Seek a second term.
Sorry, I had to do it.

Joking aside, don't worry about it. Everyone feels like that sometimes. If it's something really bad, if it effects another person, then apologize if you think it's warranted. If it's just something like "wow, I danced like a lunatic at that party and now I feel like an idiot" well, big deal. You're probably the only one thinking about it anyway so you may as well just laugh about it and move on instead of making yourself crazy with worry.

17. I know. I get it too. It's horrible. But I'm learning that nine times out
of ten I'm the only one who's spending any time worrying about whatever mortifying thing I did so why beat myself up over it.

I guess one good thing about it is that it shows you care about how your actions effect other people or it can be a signal that you need to reassess how you approach/react to certain situations and that can be a good thing. Nothing wrong with taking a good hard look in the mirror once in a while. But for the most part, just remember that somehow, in some way, everyone's an idiot. It's ok.

18. Thank you for your support.
I guess I should be more worried if I did or said a really stupid thing and then didn't care at all - kind of like some politicians I know.

22. I was just an idiot at work
I back off for a few days, think about it, apologize if necessary, or at least bring it up as long as it doesn't make things worse, and then forget it and move on. I accept resposibility for being an idiot and try not to cast blame or get defensive. Sometimes if I just swallow my pride, and listen to someone vent, it goes away quicker.
