13. Thanks for the welcome.
I work as a Release Engineer (software development) for a major firewall company. In a former life I was a United Methodist Minister. I am married to a wonderful woman and have two daughters who are grown up and married. The younger has a son who is 4 1/2 years old and the greatest. A couple years ago I had a severe case of mid-life crisis and bought a 2003 Harley Davidson Heritage Classic. This seems to have cured me for a while because I was able to sell my Ford Explorer Sport and buy a mini-van. I got enough "testosterone" from the bike to compensate for the minivan.

I hesitated to jump in because I sometimes come home from work really tired of computers and didn't want to be non-responsive. Anyway, I am really pleased with the warm responses I'm seeing.

It makes me wonder if the conastoga had a sofa in it, like those VW vans from the 70's with a mattress in the back.

Wonder what that is for?

But I'm a FANTASTIC teacher (even if I can't find the keys just now, due to CA port ... specifically South Coast Winery Black Jack Port ... yum). 111. J'ever notice when they talk about the whole rich-man-camel-eye-of
needle thing? They usually mention that the "needle" of famous memory was actually a low narrow gate that the camel had to pass through. What a crock; If Jesus had meant "low narrow gate", he would have said "low narrow gate".

90. Yes, an HD.
How's this for crazy - that 2003 HD Heritage Classic is the only motorcycle I have ever owned, or driven. When I bought it, I went into the Harley store and bought the prettiest bike I could see. I loved the Heritage Classic.
I didn't know how to drive a motorcycle so I had a friend drive it home for me and put it in the garage. I took the MSF Basic Rider's course that weekend and nervously rode the 700 lb. bike around the neighborhood the next Tuesday after work. In the two years since then I have put 27,000 miles on the bike. What a ride.

126. 300 miles ain't bad
With the stock seat, AirmensMom would be a cripple in 60 miles. With the Corbin seat we can do at least 400 miles but still don't mind walking around when stopping for gas. I had heard the suspension was a little stiff on the trike was all.

There is a huge GW club down here out of Miami. We see these guys taking a day trip around Lake Okeechobee which has to be 100 miles away.

I have to admit the Gold Wing is a really pretty bike. I will see if I can get a picture of my bike up here.

I view the HD as a little "closer to the ground" type of bike. By that I mean that it, mine in particular, has a lot fewer luxury items. Yet, it rides so nice. It has counter-balance shafts to absorb the vibration.

227. I may have told you - I have been riding since 9/03.
This HD is my first and only bike and I have 27K+ on it. I'm on my fourth rear tire and second front. I bought the bike strictly on looks, since I didn't know anything about bikes, and had a friend drive it home. I took the MSF Basic Rider course that weekend and was on the bike the following Tuesday, albeit slowly and a little nervous.

Since then I have put V&H pipes on it, bought the tour pack for the back, got new seats, and a little extra chrome. I don't like the look of total chrome. Since it is a Heritage Classic is has lots of black leather with chrome dots. So, the general look is black with chrome accent all over. The chrome dots run down the tank panel, across the side of the two-up seat and down along the saddle bags. I also bought the Howard's Horns air horns for the left side. Down here in South FL, there are so many drivers with bad hearing, and eye sight, I make all the noise I can. The horns have saved my life many times.

My little sister rides a Harley Road King (cherry red with silver flames and all of the extras!) Coromino does not belong to me (I could never afford him!) He shows in the jumpers and dressage.

Click on my journal link to see my equine baby: Cotton the Oldenburg filly! I can't ride her until she's four (she'll be three in May 2006) because she needs to fully grow and develop her bones and joints. I've been with her since the night she was born! :)

152. Cotton definitely takes after her sire in overall confirmation (her build:
which is typical of the Oldenburg breed), topline (the view of her top line from the side from head to tail, again Oldenburg), her way of going (i.e. how she walks, trots and canters) and her color (a reddish bay with 2 1/2 white socks). She has her dam's beautiful head and crest mark (the white mark on her forhead.) Her dam lives at the farm where Cotton lives. Crestie is a registered Thoroughbred who is decended from both Northern Dancer and Native Dancer, two of the most famous racing thoroughbreds ever! I got in too late again today. I miss chatting with you! But I'm really glad you are finally meeting harleydad. See? He's not a figment of my imagination after all!

Are you gonna be here tomorrow morning? Have I missed the latest Tony pics? Are you going to drive down this weekend so we can wash cars together (and meet each other and greekspeak?) Enquiring minds want to know!

:hi: :loveya:  :bounce:

I WILL be here in the morning to get the Early Morning Crew started, yes! :woohoo: I posted a couple of new Tony pictures the other day. I put them in my journal also, so you can pull it up and see them there! I have to work tomorrow, so I probably won't get to drive down THIS weekend, but that's a great idea! :bounce: I'd love to wash cars together and so we all can meet! :loveya:

145. I just posted a thread today.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=4901366&mesg_id=4901366

This afternoon, we got a ball-park estimate from the new builder, which was right around what we expected, maybe even a little lower.

Selling the house is a little discouraging, but maybe we need to find a job first.

Let's plan a weekend together in Boca, before things start to move quickly and we're "out of town by sundown Brown." :bounce:

230. Actually, at this very moment I'm looking through ads
for auditions. There's one in British Columbia that looks interesting...

But for those who don't have a fulltime job, in the DC area at least, there are a number choral groups and churches that hire orchestras, regional (part time) orchestras, weddings, parties, recording studio gigs, and occasional TV shows.

And there's always teaching...

Anyway, since I have had to look for employment in NE TN, where we own land and are building a house, I can't imagine what it might be like to pay the bills in DC. I use to play trumpet and french horn (translate as freedom horn ;^) in high school and college and actually loved it. Maybe I good make some money playing trumpet up there if nothing else happens.

217. A beauty it is (from an Italian trike site)
http://www.rewaco-trikeshop.com/ (great sound when you land there)

When I can afford to get my carpal fixed (and take off from working while it heals), I'm going to be able to ride again. I want a bobber now. as much as I'd love to have a modern bike, a bobber fits my style. Lots of good used older bikes around now in the $3-5K range. Missed a beautiful totally rebuilt '84 for $4200 last fall. But, deals always come when you least expect them. Just like places like DU.

Glad you decided to stay.

220. AirmensMom brought me to DU.
I put it off for a long time because, since I work on computers all day, I often don't really feel like using the computer in the evening. However, AirmensMom has such a good time on here so I thought I would try it out.

What a reception.

Thanks for the welcome.

235. I agree. My hedge is probably 80ft. long and 7 ft high.
And, when the sun comes out, well, it gets a tad warm.

It really isn't fair. That hedge would be equal to about 500 lbs of dishes washed out on the lawn in the sun.
