Man Pulls Gun After Being Covered In Syrup And Oatmeal
<snip>

The joke apparently was lost on a La Crosse man who awoke at a party early Friday to find himself covered in syrup and dry oatmeal — then confronted those responsible with a loaded rifle, police said.

Travis Maassen, 20, threatened to put the muzzle of the gun into the mouth of the man who admitted to the prank at a home on the 1200 block of Redfield Street about 3:49 a.m. Friday, La Crosse police said.

Witnesses told police they were just trying to “get even” with Maassen for pranks he had pulled in the past several days, according to the criminal complaint filed in La Crosse County Circuit Court.

But Maassen “freaked out,” they said, and came out of the bedroom with a .22 caliber, bolt-action rifle.

One man managed to tackle him after having the gun pointed at his head, according to the complaint.

Maassen, of 1607 Market St., was charged Monday with second-degree recklessly en-dangering safety while armed.

He is on probation for carrying a concealed .25 caliber handgun and is on a diversion agreement for conspiracy to deliver marijuana, according to the complaint.

In court Monday, La Crosse County Circuit Judge Ramona Gonzalez ordered Maassen held on a $5,000 cash bond and scheduled a preliminary hearing for 11 a.m. March 21.
