15. Punky! Punky!
Never heard Angel. All I know about them I learned from Zappa's "Punky's Whips".

16. I think they had a guitar player named "Punky"
They weren't that bad and they had an excellent keyboard player. Max Webster was a bad-assed guitarist but his records were only available as imports back in the 70's. An import LP was at least $12 and would take about 60 days to arrive. To much jack for a young teen in the 70's who had to work four hours to earn that much. Not much left out of a 20hr. paycheck after gas and a bag of weed.

3. pissed off a Jim Morrison worshipper once
When I said that the lyrics to Rush's Trees were better than anything the lizard king stoned out freak Morrison wrote.

And I am not even that much of a Rush fan.

13. Sometimes, it's just to fun to cut down someone overly fanatic
about anything. Hell, I like Morrison and The Doors, but there are some people who are just totally ridiculous about their fan-worship. I miss the old Green Egg forumn, where Patricia Kenneally would write nasty letters to fans that went overboard there with their Mr. Mojo worship.

I'm the one who once compared Queensryche to Styx, just to piss off a heavy-metal head ex-boyfriend. Both did concept albumns, both had lead singers with classically trained voices, both tried to make social commentary in their music-it's not so much of a stretch. I told him that in 10 years, Geoff Tate will be starring as Pilate in a revival of "Jesus Christ Superstar". We broke up shortly afterwards.

I like both of those bands, too, but man, sometimes, you just have to tear down people's idols for them.

9. Great band, especially in their Police-aping years (81-84).
Peart's lyrics are silly libertarian hoo-hah, but at their songwriting and playing prime, they were capable of greatness. Plus, you can always sonically i.d. a Rush song within twelve seconds (the mark of a great band).

10. Used to like them a lot
On the good side, of course, Neil Peart deserves every accolade. He's phenomenal. The way I like to describe him is, he's the sober Keith Moon.

Also I like Lifeson when he's on, which doesn't happen often. I've been a guitar player in a trio, and as such I have some familiarity with the problem of trying to come up with guitar parts that fill the available sonic space in a non-stupid manner. Lifeson's solutions-- chords with bunches of open strings, unusual voicings, interesting picking patterns-- are all real good.

On the bad side, since the synthesizers took over Lifeson hasn't had to do any of that-- and he simply doesn't make it as a reggae player.

Disclaimer: the last Rush I sat down and listened to was Roll the Bones, and obviously I was less than impressed. I understand the recent stuff has more guitar. I certainly do want to hear Feedback.

11. Great musicians.. No doubt about that
But I never got into their stuff. They always seemed to try to come off as some sort of intellectual rock or something, and it hurt my brain to worry about that many notes going on at one time.
