Looking for new music ...
I am looking for some new music. I have a "buy 1, get 3 free with free shipping" offer from BMG and want to use it.

I haven't been paying attention to the music scene much since the late 90's, so I don't know what's out there. Muscially, I like a lot of styles, but lean towards rock/metal - Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest, Aerosmith, STP, Soundgarden, Velvet Revolver, etc. But that's not in stone - my favorite group is Pink Floyd.

From what I have heard, I don't like Korn, My Chemical Romance or The White Stripes stuff. What else is out there? I want tunes I can download into my iPod Shuffle and work out to.

I am also looking for info on The Eels. Heard a lot of good press, but thats about it.

Thanks.

5. That's on the "to buy" list ...
I don't think it's in BMG. I'll have to check.

4. If you are in to metal
Check out Avenged Sevenfold, Throwdown, In Flames, Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, the newest Judas Priest, Darkest Hour, As I Lay Dying, Mastodon, Shadows Fall, Zao. Those are the first few to pop in my head.

7. Spped metal is old school
sort of like early Anthrax and such. These guys would be considered metalcore. Opeth and Between the Buried and Me are really progressive metal. Avenged Sevenfold is very melodic metal. Try them out.

9. If you like Metallica, you'll probably dig Avenged Sevenfold...
They do the same sort of thrash/melodic combination

for the hard rock
(paradoxically british)
The M's for brit-rock-pop-glam
(paradoxically american)

The Eels are okay. There are a lot of bands with good press, that are just okay.

You might like Margot and the Nuclear so and so's if you like the Eels. They are better IMHO. Though working out to either of them may not be the most motivating thing in the world.

Most metal today is utter rubbish. It's like Korn, undigestable.
Stick with Black Sabbath and Zeppelin.

If you like poppy rock and roll try The New Pornographers (canadien), or maybe Of Montreal (not canadien).

I like working out to Giddy Motors or McClusky (warning parental guidance and sense of humor advised) myself, enough tempo and rhythm changes to keep me moving. Giddy Motors is a weird mix of jazz, metal, and punk rock but worthy a listen or two.

12. Cool, I'll check 'em out ...
Back in college, one of my roommates was in a band called Montreal. They released a demo album, but that was it. It was the mid-80's so they relied on the Dave Lee Roth style and it fell through.

11. Hey Meegbear
Im a big fan of a lot of the sounds you listed above. some rec's from me would include Phish, Jimi Hendrix, the Doors, and this new band that im getting into called The Black Keys. Also, I love Duncan Shiek who is a little more mellow then the metal heavy stuff, so don't know if its your type...

:hi:
