Fried chicken for dinner
I'm making fried chicken for dinner, but I'm out of eggs. Think butter will work to make the breading stick?

5. Sure, if you're dredging in flour.
Dip in milk, dredge in flour, according to my resident expert, miz t.

16. preferably buttermilk
In fact, marinate the chicken in the buttermilk for a day, which obviously you can't do now, but yes, buttermilk (or even regular milk) is the way to go with fried chicken.

31. As usual, Rabrrrrrr is correct. Buttermilk is the way to go.
But regular milk will do in a pinch.

make your own buttermilk: add one TBSP lemon juice or white vinegar to 1 cup of milk. Let stand for 5 to 10 minutes.

I use it instead of purchasing buttermilk or the buttermilk powder.

I can guarantee that this works. Makes great buttermilk biscuits w/o having a couple of quarts left in your refridgerator to spoil.

9. Mix flour and water.
Not too thin and not too thick. Dip the chicken in that and then in your breading. It works better than eggs, IMHO.

29. I'm the wrong person to ask
The few times I have attempted to make fried chicken or fried catfish I have nearly succeded in torching the house.

If God had meant for humans to cook fried chicken at home, he wouldn't have created Popeyes!

Mmmmm...Popeyes.
