Chloe, my sweet 20-year-old cat, has passed away.
Here's a picture from a few months ago:

Chloe was my mothers-day gift to mom in 1985. Mom passed away ten years ago. Three years ago when my dad could no longer care for her, Chloe came to live with us. Dad passed away last year.

Chloe suffered acute kidney failure over the weekend and the vet said she was too weak to respond to treatment.

She would have turned 21 in April.

She was the same age as my niece! She's beatiful.
I am so sorry for your loss particularly since
her circumstances were so sentimental. She'll be
waiting for you on the rainbow road, and my critters
Sally, albert and Petey will look after her in the
meantime.

Edited for rotten typing.

I'll try not to get maudlin, but what a sad day for you. A link to your parents gone. We have Merlin, my father in law (d.2000) gave him to us when he couldn't care for him anymore in 1999. He is my husband's last tangible link to his dad in so many ways. He'll be 14 this year. My heart goes out to you...for all that you mourn today.

our sweet Emma (parti-variety Cocker Spaniel) died 2 weeks ago of kidney failure. I think your idea of spreading Chloe's ashes over your parents grave site is particularly significant and beautiful. I think your parents would really love it. She'll be together with them again.

My heart goes out to you....

24. Sorry To Hear The Sad News...
... it's always difficult when a beloved pet dies. It's clear to me that Chloe was very loved and a treasured family member. She was very lucky to have all of you to care for her. I can only imagine how you're feeling... but I hope that as time goes by, the grief you're feeling today will be gradually be replaced with memories of happier times... and that thoughts of Chloe will always make you smile.

Chloe looks like a beautiful cat.

We lost our cat Archie last night. Six year old tuxedo cat, black with a white belly and little white boots. He was absolutely adorable and he had all sorts of personality and attitude. I loved him so much. He died during emergency surgery last night to remove something that was stuck in his stomach. My wife and I are absolutely devastated. He was like a child to us. We've been crying all day.

48. Sorry to hear about Archie, Strawman...
Those little black cats have tons of personality and attitude. Having to go through the surgery is hard enough, but to then lose your angel just compounds the anguish. Like you and your wife, I've spent most of the past few days near tears, just trying to press on and not think about it too much.
Jokerman and I am so sorry for your loss. I hope Chloe and Archie can meet up in the next life, and maybe share a big juicy mouse and a spot of sunshine together. My condolences to you both.

45. Chloe is a very popular name.
I was looking over the shoulder of the vet when she typed the name into her computer and hit search. She scrolled through at least three pages of "Chloe" cats just to get to our record.

She said it is currently one of the most popular names she sees.

My mom was always a trend setter, even when she named our girl 20 years ago.

She was a beautiful cat.

Having had cat members of the family
for many, many years,
I've lost them to cars, disease
and disappearances. Coyotes
have been the number one suspect.

The pain does diminish with time
but we never forget them.

That happened to my cat three years ago. I still miss her. She had kidney failure too but we were able to give her saline for a while. On the day I had to take her in she came skipping into the kitchen for breakfast. The end of daylight savings time will always remind me (as if I could forget!). Peace and hugs.

I've felt that kind of pain and emptiness myself many times over the past thirty years, and boy can I relate! Just remember her in the good ways, and remember that she loved you as much as you loved her, and know that you loved her enough to let her go when the time came, with dignity, solemnity and devotion. It's all we can do is to be there for them when they need us most.

47. Thanks to everyone who posted...
Jokerman and I are still grieving the loss, but we know we gave her the best home possible. Not many cats sleep on a Select-Comfort bed (no word on what her preferred "sleep number" was) and have their own water fountain! Yeah, we're spoiling "parents"...
We worried about how she would react when we brought her into our home with our other three cats, but she quickly took over and the other cats gave her her "props" (respect).
I want to thank the kind folks at Pet Angels for calling to check in on us this week, just to see how we are doing. Their cards and calls are so thoughtful, and I know that must be a hard job to have (calling grieving pet owners you've never met). I can't say enough good things about them and The Cat Doctor Indianapolis (Dr. Myra) for giving us all these wonderful years with her. As with humans, it always helps to have a good medical team on your side for support.
Again, thanks to everyone who has posted - it has really helped Jokerman and I to feel some comfort this week. Love to all you DU'ers!
