BSG - 90 minute season finale tonight!!!
Edited on Fri Mar-10-06 06:07 AM by NewJeffCT
Don't forget to re-set your Tivo, VCR or DVR if you normally record Battlestar Galactica for an hour... it's 90 minutes tonight.

I wonder what the cliffhanger will be this time?

4. I think I'm going to give the Doctor another try
I remember seeing a few parts of episodes on PBS when I was very young. I remember being very intrigued but in a confused kinda way. So I never picked it up as a regular show on my routine, partly due to the confusion and partly due to the irregular schedule of PBS at the time.

Then I watched the premiere of a new version on one of the major networks a couple years back and didn't think much of it.

I've heard very good things about the latest version though, but I'm not setting high expectations because I think the rave reviews are mostly from long time fans who understand the mythos better than I.

5. Have you by chance seen them yet?
When it sounded like they'd never broadcast here, I got them off bittorrent. Have you seen them yet at all?

The first episode is a little weak imho, but it gets amazing.

2. Enjoy it...
I've read that the next season will not start until October.

3. But it might go to NBC
I have mixed feelings about that. On the one hand it could explode in huge ratings because it's a great show. On the other hand, it could tank and that would kill it. I don't know if it would even surive a move back off to Sci-Fi.

6. Frankly I think it would be better off staying on
SciFi.

The only possible benefit of a move to NBC is perhaps they'd get a larger budget. But I think you're right about ratings. By rights it should garner more ratings but I think it's well proven that smart shows like BSG do not always do as well as they deserve artisticly. And a show can live a much longer life on a cable station like SciFi than on a network like NBC.

Also, I have concerns about what constraints a major network might put on the writers.

7. who knows what could happen on NBC?
I'm sure more would watch... but, would they feel pressure to conform?

Many of the best shows in recent years have started off out of the mainstream - Sopranos, and other HBO fare, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, even the Simpsons started on Fox when Fox was much smaller than it is now.

8. Honestly I think it'd be better if Sci-Fi were on basic cable
One problem with Sci-Fi is that it's for most people extra money. It doesn't come with TBS and Comedy Central it's on the next 'digital expanded' level or whatever the company wants to call it at the time.

I essentially pay something like 10 bucks a month or so to get 80 more channels of which I watch pretty much only Sci-Fi. When they don't have new programming on i remove that from my package, when it comes back on, I put it back on.

If they were a 'low channel' on basic cable though the ratings would have to climb pretty dramatically. I know a bunch of people who would watch it but they just don't like paying for cable already, so they don't have it at all.

I don't think the show belongs on Broadcast for the reasons people have mentioned. Censors, and the like would probably be all over the show...though you never know. Also they need to make far more money on network for commercials so the ratings have to be so much higher on NBC than they do on Sci-Fi.

I think moving it to basic cable would be a good compromise.

9. So this season 2.0 DVD set,...
I haven't bought it because I'm afraid that it will be included in the subsequent batch and I will end up paying for it twice. "2.0" implies that there will be a 2.1 etc. I don't have cable, so I just wait for the DVDs and watch them without ads.

I don't know if they will have a DVD of all of Season 2 (2.0 and 2.1) or not.
