Embarrassing? You tell me.
My daughter is in show choir at her high school and her friend Brandon came over to visit last night. Super kid. Happens to be black. My freeper FIL is sitting at the kitchen table while Cait, Brandon and I are chatting and he states "how is the new store doing?" We all turn to look at him and I ask him what he is talking about.

Turns out he thought Brandon was the pizza delivery boy. Dear God. I have a very hard life. He is so RW, he makes O'Liely look progressive. He is also getting forgetful and asks me the same thing all the time and tells me the same story all the time.

No wonder I drink.

2. Well, since he's becoming forgetful,
each election tell him that the Democratic candidate is actually the Republican and vice versa ...

3. No way. I won't even tell him there is an election.
He actually says "God Bless George Bush" and means it. This from a man who only set foot in a church when we got married, had the kids baptized and buried his wife.

Is it 5:00 yet?

4. Were you all eating pizza at the time?
If he didn't know the kid, and pizza had recently been delivered, that's a reasonable guess, regardless of the kid's race.

All my pizza delivery guys are white, 30-something losers with 15 year old cars. They're not even worth looking twice at.

5. No.
We had been discussing ordering pizza prior to when Brandon came over, and I did introduce Brandon to the old coot as 'Cait's friend'.

And believe me, he is racist to the bone.

8. You should have referred to him as Cait's BOYfriend
Technically true - he's a boy and he's her friend. Plus, the old coot would most likely have a coronary, and you'd never hear his racist drivel again!

12. At a friend's wedding, everyone knew the Maid of Honor had

dated the groom's best friend, Jay. What most of these racist assholes DIDN'T know was that Jay was black. I went to the wedding mostly to watch these people squirm.

7. I drink. A lot.
Well, not really, but he is tough to deal with. Even my husband thinks I am a saint for not killing him.

The good news is he gets up about 10 and goes to bed about 7, so it isn't a particularly long day.

He's not a bad guy, just supremely bigoted and selfish. I have a major sore throat today and when I went downstairs to get some lunch, all he was asking about was 'did you get my money?', did you get my plane tickets?'

Hard to take in a child, let alone an adult.

9. This is not as bad as the time my African American
BOSS and his wife and seven children (now dear friends for life) came to our house for dinner in 1979 and my four year old son answered the door and called to me excitedly:

"MOM! The Jackson Five is here!"

Those dear people have never let me forget it. And I still laugh every time I think about it.

But even worse, was a very stupid collegue of mine who, when we were at another school doing a display, assumed our African American boss's husband (who was visiting and was a full prof at FSU) was the janitor for the other school and asked him to carry things to her car. And gracious man he was, he did.

10. my friend's grandfather is early alzheimers, and totally rascist
he gets very upset on garbage day because he forgets why the cans are out there and thinks the black guys from the garbage truck are there to steal his cans. if he's not watched carefully he will move the trashcans back into the garage before "they" can steal them. he also threw a fit when they had the carpets replaced and started screaming racial slurs at the mixed crew who was "stealing the rugs".
