Emma Thompson is HOT!!
Not just physically but intellectually. I love that British accent and I love a woman who uses the word truculent in a sentence. When was the last time you heard that in America? And used as part of normal speech.

She's on Letterman right now and is a riot.

5. I... I....I...
Emma Thompson as an angel in Angels In America, perfect casting.

Or Emma playing Emma on Ellen. A drunk. A lesbian. With a terrible secret. (She's not British - she's from Detroit!)

She's a great actress, she's got that well-educated British thang going on - but most importantly she's got a great sense of humour. Often about herself.

As someone once said, "Paradise would be licking Emma Thompson's toes while listening to the Isley Brothers". Can't disagree with that :)

Khash.

BTW: one of my favorite Emma Thompson performances was as a thinly disguised Hillary Clinton in "Primary Colors" opposite John Travolta. Very good performance...and a spot-on American accent.

11. She represented "Footlights College" from Oxbridge University.

Actually Emma Thompson, Stephen Frye, Hugh Laurie & Grif Rhys Jones were members of the "Footlights" club at Cambridge. Along with many other fine Brit comics & actors. So their appearance was an in-joke--& they all made wonderful upper class twits. (Although their real backgrounds were probably more prosperous than blueblooded.)

The Young Ones represented Scumbag University & won due to a well-placed grenade. (I love that subtle, intellectual British humor.)

16. Thanks for pointing that out.
Edited on Tue Mar-07-06 01:22 PM by CBHagman
I was amazed and not a little disgusted when TV Guide, commenting on Emma Thompson's guest appearance on Cheers, expressed delighted amazement at her comic ability. Didn't the author of the article even bother to check Thompson's CV? I mean, the woman wrote her own comedy material for a self-titled show. In fact, Thompson aired in the States on some PBS stations, and producer Lindsay Doran (Sense and Sensbility) reported how it influenced her decision to work with the actress/writer.

I should also point out that Thompson comes from an acting family. Her late father, Eric, narrated The Magic Roundabout, and her mother and sister, Phyllida Law and Sophie Thompson, are actors.

12. She was in a movie with Jeff Goldblum
in the 80's where they performed a sex scene on a piano. It was hot, yet comical at the same time. She has quite nice mammalian protruberances btw...:)

13. She was in The Greatest Radio Comedy Show Ever Made(TM)
Edited on Tue Mar-07-06 12:02 PM by Monkey see Monkey Do
that being Saturday Night Fry which you can download from this kindly man:

http://www.sadena.com/radio/ <- 6 episodes, 30 minutes each, mp3 format

One of Radio 4's lost masterpieces: a spoof chat show , featuring Stephen Fry as a vague caricature of himself introducing various guests and features.  The cast included Hugh Laurie, Emma Thompson, Jim Broadbent, Phyllida Law and Alison Steadman, and they all contributed to a script written chiefly by James Hendrie and Ian Brown.  Each show was punctuated by extracts of music, credited extensively by Fry ("And as the prelude to Act III of Wagner's Lohengrin fades away..."), while the parodies were astonishingly well-written and naturalistically performed.  Fry's polemic also rose to the surface occasionally, with his venom against journalism and self-publicity very much in evidence (in one show, he reacted with surprise to the news that three authors had been kind enough to come into the studio and talk about their books).  Quite simply, the series' non-appearance on the BBC Radio Collection is outrageous.

I simply cannot recommend this highly enough.

(The 2nd greatest is obviously On The Hour)
