1. You have to understand: sumo wrestlers are rock stars.
In Japan there are only three sports: baseball, sumo and everything else. Believe it or not, it's the top sumo wrestlers who get to date all the hottest actresses, get the really big endorsement contracts, and get hounded by the press.

Plus, Japanese pop culture is just wierd. I lived there 8 years and I still don't understand it.
