My Grandmother Just Died of Autonomic Failure
Edited on Mon Feb-27-06 12:24 PM by JCMach1
She was 87.

She had this very funky disease, but lived a good life and maintained her lucidity until the end when she slipped into coma. She was a lifelong Democrat.

What is autonomic failure?

Malfunction of the ANS is called autonomic failure. It results from an imbalance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions. Aging is associated with several abnormalities in ANS function that can impair elderly people's adaptation to stress.

The most common signs of ANS impairment are ...

* a drop in blood pressure when a person is standing or stands up suddenly (orthostatic hypotension) or
* a drop in blood pressure within one hour of eating a meal (postprandial hypotension).

The drop in blood pressure causes inadequate blood flow to the brain. That's why it's common for people with this problem to feel dizzy or lightheaded. These conditions occur more often in people with high blood pressure... http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4463

The worst part is I won't be able to go home for the funeral... :(

14. I'm so sorry
 Losing a grandparent is one of the hardest things. I'm sorry you won't be able to be there for her service, but maybe you can memorialize her in your own way. My grandmother died in Italy and I couldn't go to her funeral. I wore a necklace she gave me the last time I saw her for weeks afterwards. It was comforting for me.

Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 12:23 AM by madrchsod
well if she lived a good life and was lucid till she went into the light what more can any of us want in life? remember she will always be with you.....
that may not sounded right but after losing my mom, dad, and sister in the last few years i have discovered they are still with me, not in body but in spirit and according to my mom who had a near death experience, she saw the light but something called her back..
