7. the sad thing is
that I don't quite remember the book that I finished last - too much going on. It would probably be Ship Fever by Andrea Barrett (excellent short stories from a scientific point of view) or The Poisonwood Bible, which I can't imagine needs my endorsement.

I've recently started A.N. Wilson's Jesus: A Life, Annie Proulx's That Old Ace in the Hole, Greider's One World, Ready or Not and a book on Wilson at Versailles. I should probably settle on something eventually...

11. Alrighty then! - In 50,000 words or less
please tell us your thoughts on globalisation.

I recommend Paris to the Moon by Adam Gopnik. It's a literary work rather than a political one; kind of a modern-day "An American in Paris."

14. heh
Globalization...

I believe that globalization is inevitable in some form, and that that form, far from being an unavoidable bad, can very much be a great good.

In the form it's taken since the early nineties, however, it is harmful to workers (jobs fleeing on this end, horrible working conditions, low pay, banned unionization on the other end, the race to the bottom overall), destructive of local laws in favor of multinational corps (throw that at the next pro-corporatism Republican you meet and watch his head explode), destructive of the environment and, in general, a huge setback to self-determination around the globe.

Other than that, it's pretty nifty. :)

4. Where can we find the likes of: former Senator Meztembaum,
former (late?) Senator Cranston, retd Congresswoman Pat Schroeder, the late Tip ONiell, retd House Speaker Jim Wright????

Those who still fought for New Deal ideas. Those who were accepting of the issues and responsibilities raised in the civil rights era. Those who created Superfund - and made it funded through surcharges to the industries that created toxic disaster areas (now the burden has moved completely to tax payers).

Can we reenlist these old democratic fighters - or in the case of the deceased - find a way to bring them back ;-) ?

Someone needs to get in there and give the current leadership some assistance!

10. Lets go camp out on Pat Schroeder's door step
she is now an editor with a major NYC publishing company.

We tell her we won't go away until either she returns, and brings five of her friends, or she helps us "develop" new talent that we can then unleash on the voting public.

13. Hahaha
that will be the day. Have considered at some point in the future taking off to seriously work on a few campaigns. Not the low level volunteer stuff (which I have done - and probably will continue to do) but the serious policy/strategy work.
