1. Wow!

Look at the bottom of that painting! It very much reminds me the painting I posted yesterday! Same kind of blue, too!

2. you guys would have a field talking about stuff like that, mostly...

he'll pull a gesso, meticulously alternating back & forth strokes across the entirety on the panel until the strokes are so fine the appearance is not unlike a prepped canvas until completely dry...but this one, and i had to ask him when he did "why", he applied the base very think and let it partially dry, think in clumps, and then began the process, said it would leave the texture that you see.

you'll prolly understand, but he doesn't consider himself 'a painter', but an artist that does things with paint :-)
