I just tried to private message someone and it said I didn't have enough posts to do so. Can someone tell me how long you need to be a member or how many posts you need before you can PM someone?

Its origin is from the far-right message board Free Republic. They call themselves Freepers.

The term can be used for right wingers in general, as well.

I don't know how many messages you need to have to send a PM. It's an Admin secret.

A "freeper" is a member of another web site caller "The Free Republic"... while they pobably have many sane members the stereotypical freeper is very neo-conservative, very pro- republican, anti-liberal, pro-gun, right-wing, etc. Supposedly, some freepers with too much time on their hands come over here and make silly, antagonistic, or disruptive posts.

BTW, has anyone ever though of making a sticky post with the various acronyms thrown around here... example LIHOP ("let IT i.e. 9/11 happen on purpose"?

Welcome to DU- glad to have you with us.

The Admin folks are the only ones who know what the number is.
The Admin decided upon a certain number of posts before someone is able to send PMs because of Freepers coming to DU joining and then firing off nasty PMs to DU members. By requiring a certain number of posts before being able to send PMs, we're somewhat protected from this because the Freepers usually expose themselves pretty quick.
