Man Shot In Groin During Fight Over Birdseed
<snip>

NORTHEAST VALLEY - Aggravated-assault charges are being recommended for both a 65-year-old woman and the neighbor she shot in the groin with a 12-gauge shotgun this month, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said Monday.

An investigation by the Sheriff's Office showed that the pair were arguing outside their homes in the 7300 block of Clearwater Parkway when Darrell Sims, a 52-year-old oral surgeon, threatened Sandra Long with a piece of rebar and threw rocks at her. Long then fired a .38-caliber pistol at Sims, missed and got the shotgun from her house, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The argument started when Long refused to stop throwing birdseed into Sims' yard, documents showed. Long declined to comment on the incident and her relationship with Sims. Sims, who has been discharged from St. Joseph's Hospital, did not return phone calls to his office Monday. The Jan. 7 shooting was the latest in a series of conflicts between the neighbors.

"I know that they've been going back and forth, and we've been called out there previously," sheriff's Sgt. Kip Rustenburg said.

Property records show that Sims bought his property from Long in 1999. Long filed a lawsuit in Maricopa County Superior Court against Sims in 2003 over a property dispute, which is scheduled for trial in July.

Arraignment dates will not be set until charges are filed by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.

3. Jeez, it's a good thing they both had guns...
Otherwise no one would be safe!

(Sarcasm? Yes. Flamebait? Probably. Do I care? Not at all.)

4. Possible Darwin Award contender here
the criterion is not that the moran actually die, but that he (nearly always a 'he') remove himself from the gene pool. Self-inflicted groin-area injuries count, if they render the recipient unable to procreate.

True, his neighbor pulled the trigger -- but he threw rocks and rebar at her first! I rule this a case of justifiable Darwinian self-defense.

But really, you shouldn't bogart a man's seed.
