4. Seen it three times, loved it
I met her at a reception after the local premiere. She was really nice but I was too shy to ask for a photo

2. Cool!
You might have met an Oscar winner. The Best Supporting Actress category is always the one with the biggest surprise of the awards. :-)

3. The two supporting awards
are up for grabs, imo.

I think Weisz and Giamatti are the faves but I think that one of the Brokeback stars Jake or Michelle could sneak out a win. Sometimes Oscar likes to reward the film by giving one of the supporting players a victory.

I doubt Heath will win, it looks like Hoffman has Best Actor locked up but they could reward one of the supporting roles.

Think Catherine Zeta-Jones for Chicago or Juliette Binoche for The English Patient.

6. I'd really like to see Paul Giamatti win
He has done such good work over the years...particularly "American Splendor". He's long overdue for an Oscar. IMO.

I agree with you about Best Actor. I think Hoffman will win...which, is certainly fine by me.

7. For awhile it seemed
like nobody in Hollywood liked Giamatti...snubed two years in a row.

8. He should have been nominated for "Sideways"
Hell, he turned in just as good a performance as Thomas Haden Church and Virginia Madsen, who were nominated.

Sometimes I don't understand the arcane reasoning behind the Oscar nominations.

9. I'm actually going to go out on a limb here and go with Joaquin Phoenix

for Best Actor.

I think this year will split. Both Hoffman and Phoenix got Golden Globes and Hoffman got the SAG award. I'm thinking the big prize will go to Phoenix. Just a hunch...

I was also glad to see Terrance Howard nominated. He's really come into his own this year. Great performances from him in H&F and Crash. He's this year's Don Cheadle. I would have been totally happy to see him walk away with it for Hotel Rwanda. Last year's Best Actor category was by far the toughest of the night and this year is definitely following suit. Outstanding performances from the men again this year.

And I hope Clooney gets one. Screenplay. That would be awesome!

11. I'm so pleased for her.
I saw Junebug some months back and found it to be one of those films that stays in the mind for days afterwards. She was so heart-breaking in that part.
