Suggest movies to watch instead of the SOTU
Personally, I think "Kill Bill Vol. 1" would make a perfect fit!

2. Actually Bush did have one "Dave" moment himself...
Which is why Harriet Myers got nominated. I'm still shaking my head over that one. Could he really not see what a disaster that would be?

7. Go with the classics!
The Talk of the Town (about a Supreme Court nominee, a fugitive, and the woman they both love)

The Farmer's Daughter (Not what you think! Progressive politics, a love story, and laughter)

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (Filibuster fever!)

Fury (About mob violence)

I'm sure more will come to mind later...

10. Depends on what you want
comedy: perhaps Primary Colors or My Fellow Americans or the one with Sinbad in it that I think was First Daughter?

drama: No Way Out is a decent thriller, Murder at 1600, Manchurian Candidate (either) or perhaps In The Line of Duty. Also there is the lighter fare of the one with Michael Douglas and Annette Bening whose name escapes me at the moment

14. The lighter fare: "The American President"
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 06:39 PM by mcscajun
One of my favorites.

President Andrew Shepherd: Lewis, we've had presidents who were beloved, who couldn't find a coherent sentence with two hands and a flashlight. People don't drink the sand because they're thirsty. They drink the sand because they don't know the difference.

20. Escapist stuff... "In Her Shoes" comes out Tues.,
I recently watched "Hustle & Flow" (quite good), "Lord of War" (good if depressing), "The Constant Gardener" (good but depressing).... if you want lighthearted fare, try "The 40 Year Old Virgin" or "Chocolat" (one of my favorite movies).

I have "In Her Shoes" reserved, will probably get a pizza, the movie, fresh grapefruit juice to go with my vodka and I'm gonna IGNORE the SOTU. Will listen instead to Mike Malloy's recap...

check out a movie called "Wrong Is Right" with Sean Connery from 1980.
