I have a $5 Westclox wind up, with that loud bell ringer. It works. :)

1. A radio alarm clock.
Whenever I get one with the loud annoying buzzer, I end up breaking it.

2. I still have my alarm clock from junior high (early 80s)
It buzzes.

I only use it sporadically - I don't require an alarm as a general rule to wake up. My internal clock is pretty good.

4. I knew someone like that
They woke up every morning at 4:00 to do their paper route. That is a talent I lack.

19. I also knew someone who woke up at 4:00 am too
When I asked how she did it without an alarm clock she told me God woke her up every morning so she'd have a couple of hours to read her Bible. I told her that I had heard of God being a co-pilot but never alarm clock before.

and I awake to the sound of the busted-ass, squeaky brakes on the city busses outside my window.

5. I have this weird clock that makes all kinds of "soothing" sounds
like the ocean, a rainstorm, etc. It wakes me up by beeping or gonging -- assuming the Alarm Cats haven't gotten to me first, by licking my nose and yowling.

12. I was looking at something like that the other day.
How does it do for ya? I'm notorious for sleeping through alarms. There was one time my alarm clock woke up the neighbor but not me. I've been wondering if I might have better luck with something less obtrusive, not some blasted blasting beeping thing, though it may seem counter-intuitive. And I haven't had much luck setting the alarm on radio, either.

13. The clock does it pretty well.
I usually set it to chimes, which gradually get louder until I either turn it off or hit the snooze button. But on those few occasions where I didn't wake up right away, the Alarm Cats moved in and finished the job.

7. I have a CD clock radio thing
but since I don't have to work early, I don't use it much. I feel much more rested when I wake on my own time and I can't sleep in too late due to traffic noise.

9. An iPod and a pillow speaker.
It works most of the time. I also have two cats, one of whom wants to be under the blankets when the furnace turns off for the day (at about 7:30); she digs at the blankets and helps wake me up.

22. Sony Dream Machine
I can wake up to beeps, cassette or radio. I normally wake up to the beeps because if I set it to radio sometimes the volume isn't loud enough and I don't wake up.

24. I set my clock radio on a Spanish station and crank it all the way up
It's set for thirty minutes before I really have to be up. My cell phone alarm goes off thirty minutes later, and I generally get up just to shut it up.

25. I don't need an alarm clock. I merely register what time I need to wake up
'with myself' before I go to sleep, and I wake up about 10 minutes before that.

It baffles everyone.

If I don't want to 'set my clock', if I'm at a hotel for example, and use wake up call, then I will sleep until it goes off.

29. The only alarm clock I can hear is the one on my cell phone.
I set it really loud.

Otherwise, I've had five different alarm clocks, and I could not hear any of them when I had them. I guess I'm a heavy sleeper.

30. Radio alarm clock
from Walgreens, it is set to a news station, but in honesty, I can set myself to wake up at a specific time, no alarm needed...all I do is think while drifting off that I need to be up at X hour and I am. An odd talent, I know.

32. A loud beeping.
Not the most ideal sound with which to wake up, but I find that I need a loud, irritating noise to get me out of bed; otherwise, I'd just sleep through it.

35. a digital
with huge green numbers. the alarm could be described as the screech of a rabid pteradactyl on crack. at least that's what it sounds like to me at 6am. And I like it that way; alarm clocks are supposed to wake you up, not entertain you
