Used to live in Saskatchewan. Hugh Ukranian population there. Pirogi are everywhere.

3. My grandma (part-Ukrainian, part Slovak) always called them "Pirohi."
Pronounded "peh-ro-heh."

However you pronounce them, they are yummy! :9

7. That's not a bad idea.
They would be a good, unique appetizers. And since I have a Ukrainian Cultural Center right down the street from my house, I think I may pick some up.

8. My Calif. neighbors never had them
Going to have kielbasa and kraut sandwiches and stuffed cabbage, too. Bring a little taste of Pittsburgh to Oceanside :-).

I'm sure they're minor.

Ours are dough pouches, crimped on one end, with potato on the inside. We pan fry them with onion, butter and bacon. Sometimes you can stuff them with "Kapusta" (saurkraut) as well.

Edit for spelling.
