1. ACK! You can honour your heritage in Scotland,"
You can honour your heritage in Scotland," McClard is said to have told Nate, "but you can't go in here looking like a clown. This is considered proper attire in Scotland, but it's not considered proper attire in my school."

2. This really stinks.
Smells of fundie BS. I went to high school in a much smaller town in MO(about 12,000) and a boy wore his kilt to the senior prom back in the early '90's. People looked but no one banned him. The teachers who did stop him were not rude. They asked him questions about it, wanted to know if it was authenic, represented what clan, etc. They just wanted to let him know that they thought it was great and a few liked the brief history lesson.

Fifteen years ago in a small town this was no big deal at all. Everything in Missouri has changed so much in the past few years!

4. They seem to have impressed the one principal, but...
I'm going to pass the petition among my relatives, friends, and forums. I'm sure it will happen again. My Clan Boyd ancestors would not rest well if I didn't help change this.

8. I'm sure that it will too,
as long as there are narrow-minded people who don't give a whit for any culture other than their own.
And you should pass the petition along. As I said previously, I don't know what has happened in Missouri in the past few years.

3. "You have to look like everyone else or you'll be
ostracized, or sent home, or publicly humiliated." What a bunch of asses. I hope they are embarrassed by their behavior.

5. Did they inspect for proper underwear?
referring to an incident in my home town last year where the assistant principle was making the girls coming into a school dance prove they were wearing panties and those panties were not thongs.

9. RBHS, right; it was the assistant principal--a woman
but she was also checking boys for underwear and doing it in full view of other students.

7. This was brought up awhile back.
There was a petition to let the kid attend the dance, and censure the principal at the same time. One of the Scottish heritage groups even got authentic accessories for the kid to further enhance the native dress. It's obvious the asshole principal ignored everyone's comments.
