TV- some of my reviews so far +"The Office" last night was a classic

"Book of Daniel" -very smart show. Sure TV boils down everything into one family (ever see "Little House" or "The Waltons"?) but this is a very timely and well written and acted show. My wife said it reminded her of a Six Feet Under ready for network primetime TV. I love the stained glass window foreshadowing and chapter ending element. The Jesus on this show is pretty much as I have always seen him to be....only white.

"The Office"-last night's show was one of the single funniest sitcom episodes I have EVER seen. It ranks up there with the WKRP Turkey show and Seinfeld's Competition and Marine Biologist show. Seriously it was that funny. "The injury" was the title-look for it to win an Emmy.

Along with "The Office" "My name is Earl" has really ratcheted it up a notch since moving to the 9PM NBC Thursday night golden time slot. Really really funny. Earl has taken a darker harder edge since becoming half of the networks flagship comedies.

"Four Kings"-not sure yet but it looks to be fairly good.

"Emily's reasons why not"- First show was pretty good but I need to mention this because having Heather Graham running around in tight t-shirts is great TV. This is followed by a John Stamos vehicle and then "The Bachelor in Paris". Tuesdays nights have just taken on a life of their own across America.

2. D'oh! I missed the ending!
I was really enjoying "The Office" last night (the first one I've seen that's come close to the humor of the British one) -- and then I got a phone call I had to take with about 5 minutes left. So I missed the ending.

It was pretty hysterical, though.

3. Did you see the scene in the Emergency room? SPOILER
Michael was filling out the form

Reason for hospital visit

Jim:Concussion

Michael scratches over something

Jim:What did you write?

Michael (looks at camera) Taking friend to hospital

Jim:It's not why YOU are here

Michael: Look it's not about me anymore

THEN one of the funniest things I have EVER seen on TV.

Dwight starts to pass out towards Jim. Jim has the plant squirt bottle ready and shoots it right into his face. You had to see it to believe it. We replayed it about 10 times.

At the very end they take Dwight in for a CATSCAN and Michael goes with him. Michael sticks his burnt foot into the CATSCAN and the tech has to tell him to STOP IT!

The whole thing was just too funny.

"...and because I don't have a butler..."

"Chuck E. Cheese? I am sick of Chuck E. Cheese"

I am laughing all over again.

16. "Oh no we love Stevie Wonder"
"Ryan..who is SUPPOSED to be dead"

I love that they are making more about the whole cast. Carrell is funny enough but getting the others involved might just be too much for me to take. My wife's face was beet red from laughing at the intro part.

6. Season two of 'The Office' is a helluva lot more funny than the first.
Dwight's crash/burn/puke was hilarious. "Hey Dwight you forgot your bumper".

I would rather see 'Scrubs' back in the Thursday night line-up. Then again, an hour of 'Scrubs' followed by 'Boston Legal' is my Tuesday tee vee heaven.

7. Agree on all points except "Emily's Reasons"....Haven't seen that yet
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 11:27 AM by Rowdyboy
The Book of Daniel was clever and witty, The Office was ROTFLMAO material, and Earl is consistently funny. Two episodes of 4 Kings have me willing to at least check out a couple more episodes.

10. I think I have the night wrong on "Emily"
PRetty funny so far. She thought the new hot guy in the office was gay, he wasn't he was Mormon.

ONe of her friends looks like Celine Dion back in the salad days...as in back when she at least at a salad.

Have you notice the stained glass thing on Daniel? I think that is very clever. I hope it survived the first week of the fundies not watching it but complaining about it.

13. The stained glass thing is a wonderful take-off....The same technique was
used on "The Wild, Wild West" back in the 1960's. Glad to see its been resurrected!

8. "My Name Is Earl" started here last week
Whilst I tend to like anything Jason Lee's involved with, I was really impressed with it after hearing a lot of mixed reviews.

I never managed to really get into the US remake of 'The Office', although what I saw was very well done. Perhaps I'll give it a go when it's found its own feet a little.

I saw a great new comedy last night on the Beeb - "Rich Hall's Cattle Drive". Rich Hall (an American comic who you may know as Otis Lee Crenshaw) and Canadian Mike Wilmot decide to be outlaws and set off on a cattle drive across England and Wales. Silly idea, but so far very well pulled off and hopefully it'll have the beautiful cinematography of their last series "Rich Hall's Fishing Show".

9. Rich Hall the "Sniglets" Rich Hall?
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 12:07 PM by underpants
SNiglets were made up words that he used to have on a an HBO show -I think. He actually had a little throw away book about them.

I was wondering what had became of him.

I'll see if BBC America carries it. Sounds like a funny idea.

On EDIT-Yep same guy

12. OMG The Office was a classic last night...
I had a bit of a crappy evening last night but I recorded it and watched it when I got home and it really cheered me up. You gotta wonder what the writers are smoking to come up with a story line like that

17. I agree with The Office being a classic
I was laughing my ass off all the way through it. The best episode by far.

I almost gave up on "Earl", but last night's episode brought me back. That was also the best they have had.

18. I'm sold!
After reading the responses.

I'm going to have to find some bittorrents of this season's Office. I had been holding off because I didn't want to watch American remakes of the original UK episodes. But I should be free and clear of that by now.
