Yesterday, I get a call from my VP saying that my employees might not have a job starting next Tuesday, as my company has not yet received money for a contract.
He tells me to wait until the close of business on Friday to tell them.
3. Nah, I told them this morning. Now the VP wants to have a face-to-face
with me...on why I disobeyed his order....I wonder why, you fuckstick? Is it because I don't particularly enjoy fucking over people who work their asses off for me?
6. I always told my team that I would be up front with them...
and would never withhold that kind of information from them. They're pissed off as all get out, but at least I can look them in the eyes and say I was 100% honest with them.
13. We need more bosses like you....I have been flat out
lied to by a boss..told there were going to be no layoffs and BAM! the next day we were called into the boardroom and given our severance letters...yes it was a Friday. I spent all that weekend crying and it was the first and thus far only time I've called the suicide hotline. I felt so betrayed and I was scared at how I was going to feed myself. That was during the Bush I administration.
10. As soon as I find an equitable job elsewhere, I'm going to resign...
and move on. This company had a profit of 70 million dollars last year and only 1000 employees. They could easily cover my team's salary until the contract money is received.
I've been on the other end of those "close the door" kinds-of talks. There's no good way to let somebody go, but at least you did it with integrity and honesty.
