Woman wants to sue Frito-Lay after having "to use the bathroom quickly"
Woman May Sue Frito-Lay After Getting Stomach Ache

DALLAS -- A consumer group is demanding that Frito-Lay put warning labels on chips with the fat substitute olestra or face a lawsuit by a woman who said she got stomach cramps and had to use the bathroom quickly after eating the snacks.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest said that the woman would sue Frito-Lay under a deceptive-advertising law in her home state of Massachusetts.

But Frito-Lay said warning labels are not needed for its Light lines of potato and corn chips, calling it an extremely safe product that's been well-tested.

Olestra is made by Cincinnati-based Procter and Gamble. Frito-Lay is a division of PepsiCo. The Food and Drug Administration approved Olestra in 1996 but required products to carry a label warning they could cause cramps and diarrhea. The requirement was lifted in 2003 after the agency determined any ill effects of Olestra were mild and rare.

1. Oh for crying out loud, everyone has known about olestra
since the 90's. This is frivolous. Was she living under a rock? Or maybe $he ha$ an agenda.

5. If Olestra needs warning labels, then so do products sweetened with
Sorbitol, Mannitol and related artificial sweeteners as they too can cause diarrhea. How come nobody is suing the manufacturers of products that use them? :eyes:
