"I couldn't believe what I was hearing," said Kaye Wintrow of Springfield, who received a call Friday saying her son's killer had been released four years earlier than she expected. "It devastated me."...

Karla Edwards, whose sister was killed in 1998 in Butler County in southwest Ohio, received a call that the man serving 15 years to life in the slaying had been released.

"I came unglued," Edwards said. "I can't even tell you how bad it was, I couldn't even talk."...

Charles Humphrey of Newark, on the notification list because a relative had been sexually assaulted by a man now imprisoned, said he got a call then tried unsuccessfully to contact the victim services unit. He said the timing was unusual because he was preparing to travel out of state to bring the relative to his home for the New Year's holiday...
