I usually have two backups of my HD, but I've been trying to get Norton Ghost 9 working this week with no luck. It kept returning error messages. I think I know why, now. My primary HD crashed. I'm pretty sure it was a physical failure. I'm pissed because it was a brand new drive right out of the box. :grr: I cloned my HD to it, then decided to use a larger drive for a clone and a smaller drive for images. Well, I've tried for three nights in a row to get the damn main drive to copy an image to another drive, but Ghost kept telling me there was a problem. I ran a thorough scandisk, discovered some bad sectors on the primary drive and tried again. No joy.

Sometimes bad sectors mean nothing. This time I'm afraid it meant a HD failure was imminent. Damn. I'm using the clone now: the only good copy of my HD I have. I'm envisioning having to pay some company major bucks to get my files back...ugh. I'm going to clone to the smaller drive...it's formatting now.

I took the failed drive out and gently shook it. Hard drives aren't supposed to rattle, are they? :grr: My mother actually bought it...hope she still has the receipt because it's defunct.

Jesus, I'm shaking all over. Nearly 15 years of work--creative writing, musical scores, vocal recordings, artwork, photos, etc.--are on this HD. Some of it can't be replaced...kind of like photos of loved ones.

So pray that the Flying Spaghetti Monster will reach down with His Noodly Appendage and keep my good drives safe! Maybe, if He doesn't mind too much, He could heal the sick drive?
