For volunteer Chris Spinelli, serving a Christmas meal at the mission is a part of his holiday tradition. "It's a time to give and I've been fortunate my entire life. It's a sense of goodness -- it's a step toward a new day," Spinelli said.
For the last three years, Spinelli and his co-workers from Burbank-based Beyond Zebra, a consulting firm, have closed the office to spend the day at the mission.
It is the mission's sense of community that keeps Spinelli's co-worker, Terri Yamate, coming back to serve meals at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. "We've kind of adopted the Los Angeles Mission," she said.
Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt (CBS' "Ghost Whsiperer") hosted the event for the second consecutive
year. "I think this is truly what this season is about. Really, Christmas is about the human connection of man to man, spirit to spirit. You don't get that any better than here at the Los Angeles Mission," Hewitt said. Hewitt served chicken alongside other celebrities, including actress Camryn Manheim and "Access Hollywood" co-host Billy Bush. Los Angeles City Councilman Dennis Zine was also on hand to serve green beans and corn.
