Krauthammer’s tone

I am aware that the Tribune regularly receives letters castigating the Commentary page for running Molly Ivins’ columns. I find those letters amusing in their lack of substance as to exactly which facts are points of disagreement.

In "Get Hussein out of the control room; He’s turning his trial into a sideshow" (Commentary, Dec. 12), however, we now see which regular columnist really loathes America and those things for which it stands. It is the conservative polemicist, Charles Krauthammer. Aside from a simple, two-dimensional view of everything (making him a walking indictment of our higher education system), this column actually begins with a plea to just kill Saddam Hussein and not bother with the trial.

Hmmm! Here we are, reportedly trying to spread democracy and our form of governance to the Middle East (an effort Krauthammer supports), and yet the American system of jurisprudence is nothing more than an another inconvenience. He would have Hussein withdrawn from the courtroom so as not to be allowed to face his accusers (another affront to our form of justice; constitutionally protected I might add).

Given the tone of his screed on this day, I have one question: Why does Charles Krauthammer hate America?
