When you know that your kids truly understand the reason for the season
I had to make four dozen cookies for the elderly and infirmed tonight for delivery tomorrow. I have been at the mall Christmas shopping, yes I just started and yes I finished, and got home and just wanted the relax. Our Sunshine Club, at Christmas and Thanksgiving, puts together a full course meal for those less fortunate and delivers the meals and presents during the holiday week. I am a fringe member, I do what I am asked to do, but not much else. I am the only member with kids still in school and working full time. They realy don't expect a whole lot from me. Meaning I can bunk out when I want to or don't have the time.
I was not looking forward to making the cookies tonight. My contribution would really not be missed as the group puts on this huge spread. I told my 16 yo son such and he said that he would do the baking. So here I sit typing on DU and my son is making cookies.
His words to me:" God Mom, this is the least we can do. Maybe someone really looks forward to this and if everyone said they weren't going to bake or cook then these people might think that no one cares about them."

What a great kid!

3. Thanks!
I can't stand the Republicans always saying what crappy parents we Democrats are and how much better they are at parenting. My 18 yo daughter has a band and decided to hold a benefit concert for their HS janitor because he had cancer and had incredible health care costs. My daughter's band raised over $1000 for him. Said janitor also had a bumper sticker on his truck, "Work harder millions on welfare depend on you.""

Said bumper sticker was removed from his truck after my daughter and her band handed him the check.

4. You know what I really like about this story?
The fact that your son is baking the cookies.
Too many people would just let it go; or, once they heard something like what your son said, they would feel guilty and get in the kitchen. You have not only taught your son well - you have given him an opportunity to make good on his words, by letting him do the cookies.

Tell him the Cheezy Rev is proud of him, too. :hi:
