Tyler's Holiday Challenge
Back in December 92 or 93, I was in Houston. I had separated from my wife at the time, and had custody of all three kids.

We were driving from a quick lunch at McDonald's, when I spotted an old, shabbily dressed man under the freeway overpass with a sign that said simply "I'm Hungry." It was very cold.

I started to weep, and the kids all started to cry too. We turned around, went back to the McDonald's and bought him a two quarter pounders, fries, two apple pies and two large coffees. We drove back to him, and I got out of the car, gave him the food, and gave him two sweatshirts, an old coat and jersey gloves that were in the trunk, and $20 that was all the cash I had in my wallet. He started to cry, I started to cry again, and the kids were crying again. He thanked me over and over and I just said it was OK, and we left.

Tolstoy once was sitting at his desk in a Moscow winter, contemplating the abject poverty of the people, when he said to himself, when we see need, what then must we do? His answer was, Whatever we can do.

When you see one instance of need this holiday season, do whatever you can do.

2. If we all did just one good thing....
...I honestly believe we will do more to change the world than anything else we can contemplate.

6. You're so right, Tyler!
Good for you for not being afraid of saying so! We should all have the courage to stand up for our own beliefs and be willing to support them anyway we can.

Thank you again for the inspirational post! :yourock:

3. that made me cry
This is a needed reminder. We can't help the entire world but we can help in small, and important, ways.

10. poverty
In America is real

That is why we need to end this Iraq mess, and start caring about our people
here in the US

I am so tired of all our tax money going over to Iraq
when we have homeless people here in the US

11. The homeless rolls will rise this year.
Will gas prices headed for the moon (or is it Mars? I think Bush said we're going to Mars) the housing bubble bursting in the rust belt, it is not just immoral to do nothing, it's AMORAL.

In case I hadn't made it clear, I go out of my way to do this action every year, at least once and more if the opportunity and pocket money presents itself.
