I am so proud of my kid! We have another progressive in the making.

His honors English assignment was to write a short essay supporting or disagreeing with the death penalty. We live in a very repug area and he knew that he would be in the minority but he volunteered to stand up and read his essay and then fielded questions from the other students. He was the only person who was anti death penalty but he stood his ground. That's not an easy thing to do as a gawky 14 yr old.
I went through similar things as a kid, but I didn't have his confidence. He just doesn't care that his views may be unpopular. His principles are more important that "fitting in" but he still manages to fit in.
