100-Year-Old Woman Spent 40 Years Volunteering

quote...
"They take in thousands of dollars," said Jackie Thorland, with the Swedish Medical Center. The shop has an all volunteer staff, including Cary, who first interviewed for this position some 20 years ago.

"And she said, 'Have you ever done anything like this before?' And I said, 'Yeah, probably 20, 22 years back home.' And she said, 'Can you work tomorrow?' And I said, 'Yes.' And I've been here ever since," said Cary.

She's spent 40 years volunteering, not bad for someone who just turned 100.

"It's amazing to have someone 100 and still working. She's pretty inspirational," said Cary's grandson, Jud Cary.
end quote.

Sorry, they don't have a PIC of her. She looks like she is 70!

1. Santa hears silent wishes (of hearing impaired children)
http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/cda/article_print/0,1983,DRMN_15_4291236_ARTICLE-DETAIL-PRINT,00.html

As a 7-year-old girl fluttered her legs over the lap of Santa Claus, she spun two clenching fists.

Using American Sign Language, Alondra Aguirre-Guiterrez told Santa she wants a bike for Christmas.

"Many of them never had an opportunity to talk to Santa," said Barry Howery who dressed up as Santa. "The kids are beaming because they can tell their wishes."

Around 200 children like Aguirre-Guiterrez used their hands and fingers to talk to Sign Language Santa at the Cherry Creek shopping center this morning. For 13 years hearing impaired children have been able to sit on Saint Nick's lap and make Christmas wishes.

Nice change from the regular, more depressing news
