My now-destroyed 1929 house.(dial-up warning)
Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 08:24 PM by lildreamer316
The city tore it down to build a loop. It is so painful to have lost this house; some days I feel like I lost a member of the family. I was born in this house and grew up there; we had 3 acers of land with it and many beautiful old trees. It left a hole in my heart; even though I am ashamed to be so tied to something material. Been feeling a need to find another old house to call "home" lately; I won't be really happy until I do.

3. Thanks...
Me too. I tried to shake this feeling of needing to find another one; but it's just too strong.

2. I understand your feelings.

That was a lovely home and I don't care what anyone says, our homes have spirits. They welcome us and make us feel safe. Look at the azelas in the yard, how lovely. :pals:

Good luck to you in your search for a new "old" house.

4. It was a lovely place
I understand what you mean about being attached to a home. The house I grew up is still there, but it's been totally run down by its new owners. They destroyed the landscaping my mom put so many years into, and covered the flowerbeds with rocks. I think that part hurts the most. I hate driving by there. :(

6. ooo That sucks.
Has to drive you nuts. I can't even drive by the area the house was anymore; it is so painful. Ridiculous; but true.

16. I live right up the street from my childhood home
and I go out of my way to avoid driving by it. It makes me so sad to see it. The new ownwers haven't trashed it but my parents lived in that house for 40 years. I just can't bear to see someone else living there.

7. What a wonderful house.
And I think that while you may indeed be sad at the loss of the structure, my guess would be that it's even sadder to lose the place where you have so many memories (but at least you still have those).

14. Thank you..
I feel so silly being as upset about it as I am; but....you know what I mean.
Well; here's to finding "home" again; I'm sure it's out there somewhere.

12. Yep.
I really am all for this city progressing; which is why I didn't fight it any harder (we couldn't afford to move it and it was debatable to be declared historic)but I am still pissed off at them for it.

I went through a major funk when my parents sold their home 3 years ago. Somewhere in my mind is the thought that maybe I can buy it in the future.

I can't imagine what it's like to see the emptiness where your life once was. But perhaps Merh and other Katrina victims can relate, all too well.

edit/ next time, I'll read the thread first. I see Merh already got here.

24. I tried
but some other things got in my way eventually and my mother didn't follow up. Then Dad died and I think she just gave up about it. I still feel like I could have done more.....

Was Eminent Domain used in treating this jewel as a piece of scrap?

The city made a wrong choice.

25. What a beautiful house...and I'm so very sorry...
Don't feel guilty at all about being tied to a home. You undoubtedly have many wonderful memories there :) But think of it this way - it is a change, and you should embrace it! You will find a new place to call "home" and make more wonderful memories there. It's totally okay to be attached to something like this, but you still have what really matters (friends, family, and yourself!).

It's a beautiful home, and I sure hope you find a place to make new memories in very soon
