I lived in the UK from September 2001 through June 2005. During that time, I was there on a student visa, then on a temporary resident visa. I worked part-time, then full-time, and paid UK income tax. I have just found out that my father, who previously filed my very simple US income tax return with his accountant each year, did nothing the whole time I was in the UK. I am under the impression that I should've filed one and paid no tax - but nothing has been filed for 2002-2004.
I am now back in the USA and applying to do an MLIS starting summer session 2006. I will be self-financing, and do not want student loans, but my university requires me to fill out a FAFSA in order to apply for their scholarships.
I have done it online, saying that I did not file for 2004 and that my income was 0. However, I have not submitted the FAFSA, as I am unsure as to whether doing so may cause me more grief than it is worth. ???
I have been working full-time here in the USA since the beginning of October, and paying the maximum tax - no calls from the IRS yet.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
