UCLA will beat USC
Just a hunch, and one I've had all year.

You heard it here first.

2. I've got to admit I'm thinking the same thing
but then I'm a Bruin fan :D. I haven't been pulling against USC because I'd rather see them win the national title than Texas.. but I will admit the Bruins pulling out a victory will be very sweet.

It'll be a good one regardless.

A bit sensitive about freaking college football aren't you? Who the hell is talking politics here?

I don't root for a college football team because they are liberal. IF you saw my post that I am actually a Bruin fan - which is more liberal than USC so your little rant means nothing.

Yes, USC is the University of Spoiled Children :D - but they're still a So. Cal. school and not in TEXAS!

Good God.. get a grip :eyes:

But if they're up against UCLA I'm all about the Blue and Gold.

BTW, I made my BIL's year w/ four tix to Bills v. Chargers on the 20th, an early birthday present. He was about three rows from the field in the end zone. Maybe not the best seats in the house, but he was beyond thrilled with them, and everyone had a great time. Go, Bolts!

45. End zone seats are the absolute best
The 50 yard line is for snobs. Mid level in the center of the end zone is by far the best angle to actually tell what's going on in the game.

You can watch the line of scrimmage develop including the blocking schemes and head-to-head matchups. The coverage schemes and pass patterns are in perfect view also, no distortion from lousy angles. Just bring a pair of binocs for the far end of the field aspect.

Why do you think the coach's film they occasionally show on ESPN is from behind the action, not 50 yard line? The teams wouldn't be caught dead without cameras in the end zone.

42. This year is completely different
The pointspreads on many of those recent year upsets were very small, many single digits. Once you get to the range of pointspreads like these the win likelihood soars exponentially. The chance of USC or Texas losing is extremely low.

Fans who don't gamble tend to think pointspreads are just used to balance action. That is common mythology. They are also very handy tools to assess theoretical win probability. You can chart pointspread ranges back decades and determine how often the favorite wins given the pointspread. The correlation is astounding and provides logical projection of win probability. Based on the numbers this week, USC is more than a 1/15 favorite and Texas closer to 1/25. If anything, both of those projections are on the low end.

71. Yes, 21 points translates to 1/15
The probability soars exponentially once you get into double digits especially above 17. That's why sportsbooks don't offer money lines (odds to win straight up) on numbers like that and above. It's essentially giving away money, short term interest.

It's a fallacy that pointspreads are simply to balance action. They equate to likelihood of victory. The sports media does a horrendous job of detailing probability. I guess they just don't understand the applications. Or maybe they want to keep the audience around and not tell them one team theoretically has 15 or 25 times more chance to win than the other.

44. UCLA does not matchup well with USC
The Bruins are MUCH softer than Fresno State on the line of scrimmage, both offensively and defensively. That's the reason UCLA has had so many desperate come from behind escapes this year.

Maybe this will look stupid in a few days, but as an 'SC alum I was genuinely concerned about Fresno St but I think we'll smack UCLA. Especially at home. A softer finesse oriented team like UCLA has a chance to cover up flaws at home, but on the road they get exposed. It's more of a home edge than generally estimated, despite the down-the-freeway aspect.

USC is hands down, bar none, the best time in college football. There's not even a comparison between them and any other team. Hell, they could probably beat a couple of the crappier pro teams. It is SICK how good they are.

40. Three quick questions:
Who leads the league in rushing yards (Hint:LaDainian Tomlinson is No.5)?

Who leads the league in touchdowns (Hint: LaDainian Tomlinson is No.2)?

Who has been in the league as long as LaDainian, played very little his first year, and yet still has several hundred more career rushing yards than LaDainian?

I think you know the answer.
I agree. The Seahawks suck. But Shaun Alexander is a freaking badass.

74. I applaud anyone who goes out on a limb
Regardless of the outcome. Actually I loved this outcome but because of my alma mater and my bet, not your thread.

DU is very good about not rubbing it in. I post at team-specific football websites where I can give out one winner after another but as soon as you throw in a loser or two they act like you're the alltime dunce. The pathetic aspect is it's always the semi-lurkers who never offer an original opinion who criticize the most.

81. Requisite taunting... 66 to 19?! OH MY! What were you thinking, Dawson?!
What a freaking slaughter. In fact, one could say that USC butchered UCLA. Where have I heard that before? Oh yeah -- I said it!
I mean, sweet jumping Jesus in a shitstream, bubba! This one was beyond even my wildest imaginings, and I've got a pretty active imagination. Were it not for the laughable Texas/Colorado game, this would have been the most horrid crushing of the season -- at least among those games that actually mattered.

I mean, wow. Just, wow.
