But really, where the hell do y'all hide?!

On edit: Matcom has reminded me that "disease-free" is also a requirement for playing. Thanks!

Volunteer in the next campaign. There are always tons of hotties at Dem campaigns....trust me-taking my wife to HQ was like taking sand to the beach.

Of course as DU might illustrate that doesn't mean that they will be sound rational or resonable. :eyes:

27. I volunteered in the last one.
It rather sucked, actually. No one really talked socially and everyone was just given their little duties like mute miners. Then again, that might also be part of why that certain somebody lost...

30. Yes... you are right...
The Loosing part...

Hangout at the local college and say things like, I really think Tragically Hip is an Ironic name for the band, don't you think... Cause they are neither tragic, nor hop....

Take a long slow drag off a clove cigarette, let the smoke curl up and get in your eye so you have to wince, just a little, and turn and walk away, extracting your worn copy of On the Road from your back pockett and saunter away...

You'll get tons of chicks...

Or answer the ads in the back of your local alternative weekly... Stable women always take out ads in the back of local weeklies...

15. Emotionally stable
is relative. We're all a little quirky, especially as we get older. We're out here. We can be found volunteering at concerts, shelters, soup kitchens, political events, campaigning for good candidates and in the grocery store at odd hours because we're so damn busy. We're teachers, cashiers, computer geeks and accountants. We're looking too.

But for the hell of it, I'll define emotionally stable as being capable of living a happy life without some sort of severe psychological impediment.

He'd like somebody who's not still carrying a lot of anger around because of what some little boy did to them.

And they seem to delight in finding "nice guys" to take it out on.

Quirky is OK. When it starts to get into borderline sociopathy, well, that's a horse of a diferent colour, now, isn't it...

16. Where I hide -
I go to work, and I go home. So - I'm probably hiding at home with a book, watching tv, messing with computer equipment, listening to music, etc -

More important is WHY I hide:

Because any unstable, needy, passive aggressive control freak within a 500 mile radius is sure to find me and fall MADLY in love.

:scared:

92. Yeah - it's funny from where YOU'RE sitting!
;)

Not so funny from over here!

Dealing with this now, in fact. Asked out by a nice but quiet guy - we're very different but I liked a lot of things about him. Dated for awhile - then starts:

Why don't you want to come over tonight? ARE YOU SEEING SOMEONE ELSE?
I LOVE you!
FUCK you!
Come here!
Go away!

I mean, WTF? This guy says he wants to marry me and have my babies - but half the time he acts like he doesn't like me or want me around - but HE'S the one that makes all the phone calls and asks me to come over, etc. Then he's accusing me of sleeping with someone else, says he wants to be with me always - he's never loved anyone like he loves me, etc. Then I get "fuck you's" and attitude that are completely unwarranted by anything I have done - etc. Umm - alright. Yeah right, buddy. Marriage and babies? I can hardly contain my desire to jump right into that situation! :eyes:

Happens ALL THE TIME. Much safer staying holed up in the house w/ the dog and kitties! I finally stuck a toe in the water after years of a self-inflicted dry spell and SEE what happens?

:scared:

93. It's not any safer, believe me.
You know what they say - nothing ventured, nothing gained. Dating's the same way. This is coming from a guy who gave a year and half's worth of love, complete patience, and support to a manic hypochondriac with years of therapy ahead of her (and that really is the nicest way it could possibly be said) only to have her cheat on me only a month removed from her deciding that she wanted to go shop for wedding dresses (and marriage was entirely her idea in the first place). Being that we were living together, I've had to share an apartment with her since July, when I learned of said infidelity (I finally leave that hell on December 15).

But not all the other women out there are going to be like her, so back out there I go. To quote Shawshank Redeption, "It's either get busy living, or get busy dying", and I'm taking option #1.

96. Understood and agreed.
I genuinely LIKE being alone, however - so it's not so much an issue that I'm hiding (afraid to make the venture) as it is a complete lack of "need" for a relationship.

When you're totally content by yourself (and don't feel lonely) there's not much that pushes you to go out in search of a relationship. Know what I mean?

Whoa - sorry about your current situation. How horrible.

:pals: Good to see you again!

I was out of town for the holiday. Went to Western NC with my sis to see a family who are old best friends of ours. Our mothers were best friends. My sis and their oldest were best friends.

Ate a lot, and shopped till I dropped. We went to a factory outlet that sells designer stuff for not quite thrift store prices. :-)

How was your holiday?

95. My method...
The only time I find what I am looking for is when I stop looking. This applies to the ladies and my house keys. I have never had much luck picking-up girls. When I give up is when they flock. Perhaps my desperation while looking is a turn-off, but, not giving a fuck is a turn on..

And if you want to look go to the library.

56. Us married guys snatched em all up in college.
Seriously though I have to admit if I was single I would have no idea were to meet someone like my wife. Book club maybe? Certainly not a bar.

My wife was a teacher for elementary school age kids, there seems to be some nice ladies there mid to late 20s often single, maybe go to PTA meetings and just don't mention the no kids in the school thing and look for rings lol.

Maybe church club :scared:? or maybe even online dating?

Probably the best would be through some mutual friend. I met my wife through my best friend and suitemate in college she was his sister. So I fell ass backwards into meeting a great lady, I got lucky.

I don't think you'll have any problems meeting liberal women in the right arenas. Anything artsy is usually filled with left-leaning types...maybe community theatre? You don't have to act, there's plenty of help needed backstage.

You could also try the Unitarian or United church - no fundies in sight there, and a fascinating bunch of people. :hi:

But how do you actively *not* expect something that you want?

I should also note I hear it mostly from women. And there's a reason for that - women aren't expected to ask out guys. If guys aren't looking, they aren't asking anyone out, and there's little chance someone's going to ask THEM out.

130. Do the other things you like to do.
Someone with shared interests will show up and sparks will fly ... maybe not at first (we were good friends first), but at least you'll be doing something you like to do in the meantime. And, being content in what you're doing, you will attract the type of woman you are looking for.

I'll admit, I've been out of the dating scene for a long time (31 years), but that's what worked with my girls. Don't give up -- just don't try so hard. :)

133. Oh ... I don't have any experience with dating services.
I guess that's the modern thing. Back in the olden days, we just sort of hung out and took walks, stuff like that. My husband didn't hit me the right way when I met him -- I liked him, but I thought he wasn't my type. Obviously, I was wrong. He would have failed that first date miserably ... and I probably would have as well.

It seems like dates with girls you don't know would put you both into an artificial environment ... I could be wrong.

135. Well, to be honest...
The "natural environment" doesn't seem to be sparking anything for anyone these days. No one I know my age has found anyone through natural means since college. Occasionally, someone will go on a date from work, but being that office romance doesn't work out, it doesn't. As I've said above with the whole volunteer groups/church type thing, people my age just don't seem to participate. Everyone's got their jobs, their friends, and don't have much time to do those types of things. At least not around here.

But the artificial environment really isn't all that bad. For one, you already know what someone's intentions are when you meet them. That eliminates all sorts of miscommunications and games immediately, so that much pressure is off.
