Owner clings to his SUV as thief speeds off
http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051127/NEWS/511270357/1006

State police were investigating a carjacking that left one man injured and the carjacker on the loose after he crashed the sport utility vehicle he was trying to steal near I-95 and Naamans Road on Saturday afternoon.

Troopers arrived at the Wawa at 301 Ridge Road in Claymont just after noon, after store employees and witnesses called 911 to report a carjacking unfolding before their eyes.

Wendy Nohaft was waiting in line at the convenience store when she saw a man park his SUV and enter the Wawa, leaving the maroon Lincoln Navigator running.

"He was walking in to get something, when this guy just jacked his car," Nohaft said. "The owner ran back out, jumped onto the running board while this guy took off -- with the owner was holding on for dear life!"

Normally I'd feel sorry for this guy but first, the dumbass left his car running while he ran into the convenience store doing something as stupid as that pretty much says "Please steal my car - here, I'll leave it running to make it easier for you to steal it" And second - it's a damn Navigator

5. Was he competing for a Darwin Award or something?
What a douchebag. Then again he owns a Navigator, or as I like to call them, The Starship Gooberprise.

6. I feel for him. I hope he's ok and the SUV is easily repairable.

7. How can you feel for an idiot dumb enough to leave the car running?
I know exactly where this happened at and although it's not a crime ridden neighborhood it surely isn't the type of neighborhood where you leave your Navigator unlocked and running while you run in for a pack of smokes from the local Wawa.

8. I feel for him because he is a victim of crime. And because he had a
quick lapse of judgement. He took for granted, for only a moment, society's ills. Big deal. He didn't deserve to get robbed, he is a VICTIM.

I don't think it's appropriate to blame victims when it is obviously the fault of the criminal.

He had an expensive piece of property stolen from him. That's pretty shitty. So yes, I feel for him, have every right to feel for him, and also feel that truly caring individuals would all feel for him. And yes, that is just how I feel. Yes, it is just my opinion and others may differ with it. Yes, you have the same right to feel as you do.

But calling a victim of a crime an "Idiot" and having the nerve to imply that I too must be an idiot for feeling for him, well, whatever LOL

11. I wouldn't think of you as an idiot - just a difference of opinion
We don't live in a world where it's safe to leave a car running with no one in it. It only takes 2 seconds of a momentary lapse in good judgement to see your car go driving down the highway without you in it.

And another poster came up with another very common aspect as to the poor judgement of the owner of this SUV - the carjacker could have very well held him at gunpoint in order to keep the car. The SUV owner had not one, but two lapses in judgement. Once the car was stolen he should have called 911 and let the cops deal with it. Instead he grabbed on to the vehicle and when cruising down 95 while clinging on to the outside of the car holding on for dear life.

12. Ok, so we have a difference of opinion. But I still think that you
should download river of deceit. Oh, and what about I'm not an addict, by Kay's Choice? I think you'd like that one (great tune, but not played very much)

9. I have a friend who was shot while being carjacked
It happened in Newark, NJ.
They put a gun to his head when he was stopped at a traffic light and forced him out of his car. He got out and started to run away and the thief shot him in the back. Believe it or not, the only thing that saved his life was he was wearing a nylon Columbia winter jacket. The weave was so tight and several layers of insulation stopped the bullet from breaking skin. He had a huge bruise, but he was alive.

13. Now that's what I call having one's priorities in the right place.
I'm sorry he got hurt, but I disagree with the poster above who says it's wrong to fault him. I have always thought that anyone who leaves a car running and unlocked is a dumb f***. Idiot.

Hey, we're on the same page again today! :toast:
