I call my dibs on your Thanksgiving dinner
Edited on Wed Nov-23-05 04:20 AM by MissHoneychurch

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

I know I am a day early, but what the heck. I just want to call my dibs on the turkey and side dishes. Would each of you please eat a piece in my name? Thank you :)

1. that means you are inviting me over, right?
since I would normally be called a dip. My 1962 dictionary says that a dip is short for dipsomaniac - one who has an irresistable craving for alcohol. I have always known it as another way to say 'nerd' or 'geek'. Those words also had original meanings which are mostly lost.
Anyway, the word you want is "dibs" and I wondered at the origin of that word. My dictionary says it is short for dibstones - a children's game.

3. Sure thing
I'm having Unturkey, vegetarian stuffing, vegetarian gravy, mashed potatoes, carrots, corn, olives and dessert that is yet to be determined. I'll also be having a Black Russian or two. I hear the Unturkey tastes eerily like the real thing, but since I've never had it before I'll have to wait until Thursday to find out.
