Advertising Mascots - Animals
Ubu Roi - Black Labrador retriever formerly owned by Gary David Goldberg, the producer of UBU Productions, Inc. founded in 1981. At the end of each of Goldberg's television programs (FAMILY TIES/ NBC/1982-89; THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE/CBS/1991-93; and SPIN CITY/ABC/1996-2002, among others) a black and white photograph of Ubu Roi is flashed on the screen. The photo shows a Black Labrador retriever holding a frisbee in its mouth, facing to its right. He is sitting on a patch of lawn in front of an unidentified college dormitory (supposedly somewhere France). Off screen Gary David Goldberg speaks the phrase "Sit Ubu, Sit!" and the comment "Good Dog!" The dog acknowledges his master voice with a quick, single dog bark. Ubu Roi (who died in 1984) played Frisbee with Goldberg during his college days.

That's the 1950s TV series, "I Remember Mama," about a family of Norwegian immigrants.

Starring Peggy Wood, who later played the Mother Superior in The Sound of Music, with Robin Morgan, who later became a feminist writer, as one of Mama's daughters.

Edited on Tue Nov-22-05 01:08 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
It starred a distinguished looking former silent film star and a young actress whose name was sort of a pun as his grown daughter.

After this series ended, the actress went on to star in a series called "Oh, Susannah," which lasted only a few episodes.

And that was it for her career.

82. Geez, here I thought Gale Storm was a name to be reckoned with.
Zazu Pitts is a great name, weird enough to be a given name rather than a stage name. Shouldn't talk though considering what we named our daughter.

87. I remember seeing an interview with ZaSu Pitts when she was very old
She said she was named after two aunts or cousins or grandmothers or something, one of whom was Eliza and the other of whom was Suzanne. The name was pronounced "Zaysoo."
