I salute the San Diego Zoo Bus Driver!
Nini and I spent a BEAUTIFUL Saturday afternoon at the world's greatest zoo. Because her ankles and knees were bothering her, we decided it would be best to take the bus ride that makes a round trip through the zoo.

The bus driver made the expected commentary, pointing out rare plant species, facts about the various animals and their characteristics, etc.
There are many of them, but the one we had was a gem.

He caught our ear early on. He said "and over there on the far right is the (insert wildlife factoid here)". Then he said "but still to the left of George W."

Then later (this was a 40 minute ride), he gave some background on himself... said he taught special ed for 32 years... "some call that 'special interest'". :D You'd have to know what we have endured with Ahnold to get that one. And his comment about the anteater and the direction he should turn to head into the sunlight... "move to the left... be progressive."

He kwpt us laughing with bad puns and other jokes. I have to admire him, with many potential fascists around - middle Americans and many locals - to make these kinds of offhand comments on the job. He probably has nothing to lose, and does it for extra money in his retirement.

It's an odd way to check the national barometer, but what the hell. :patriot:

2. We're going to join the Zoo
For the price of 4 zoo admissions, we can get a year's worth of unlimited admissions to the zoo AND Wild Animal Park... with guest passes and discounts.

The line for the pandas was huge. We forgot our camera (d'oh!),s o next time we will remember, and if we see the baby panda, we will get them posted. :D

3. The last time I went to WAP, a couple of rhinos got amorous.
Of course, I had to blurt out, "Won't someone think of the children?!"

7. Funny horny rhino story
Years ago, my then husband and I went to some zoo and they had two side by side enclosures with pygmy hippos in them. The female hippo was submerged at the bottom of her tank, a vague shape in the murky water. The male hippo was vigorously humping a large rock in his pen, eyes closed, Barry White playing in his head.

Hubby and I stood and gazed at him for awhile but the funny part were the families, all of whom had their kids over at the female's pen and were telling them, "Look, see the hippo?" and the kids all clamoring, "We can't see that one. Why can't we go see the other one?"

It was hysterical.
