Walk the Line sucked
Joaquin Phoenix's performance wasn't all that convincing. He'll havta play second fiddle to Jamie Foxx in terms of biopic acting.

All in all, I was fully aware that I was watching a movie the entire time. Although, the relationship between June and Johnny was handled nicely.

Sorry, but Ray did it much better. It made me sorry that he was no longer with us. Not so with this film

1. here's how some of the critics saw it:
3/4 "Cash devotees may have a different reaction to this picture. In fact, although I liked it, my bet is that they will love it."
-- James Berardinelli, REELVIEWS

3.5/4 "Joaquin Phoenix isn't Johnny Cash. But with the clip-clop of rhythms behind him, aiming his guitar like a gun, he puts on one sensational show."
-- Amy Biancolli, HOUSTON CHRONICLE

3.5/5 "The movie is less an uncharted journey than a 2 p.m. bus tour of a music industry legend. But like an expert guide, Mangold shepherds the story with enough grace, energy and skill to make it worthwhile."
-- Carina Chocano, LOS ANGELES TIMES

3.5/4 "A Johnny Cash biopic equally packed with music and frustrated love, Walk the Line goes from compelling to enthralling."
-- Mike Clark, USA TODAY

"Mangold's direction is excellent, and the script - - by Mangold and Gil Davis - - captures the complex characters without relying on biopic cliché."
-- Paul Clinton (CNN), CNN

" James Mangold's mostly excellent Walk the Line is designed as a Christian epic."
-- Richard Corliss, TIME MAGAZINE

4/4 "There's no mistaking the sound of Johnny Cash, and Walk the Line gets it just right."
-- Colin Covert, MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE

"This movie is a lot less interesting than it might be. Though it's not bad -- in fact, it’s rather sweet -- it's too simple a portrait of a very complicated and calculating entertainer."
-- David Denby, NEW YORKER

B+ "Walk the Line leaves you feeling an unusual sensation, at least as far as current movies go: You feel as if you've gotten your money's worth when it comes to entertainment and drama."
-- Robert Denerstein, DENVER ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS

3.5/4 "Johnny Cash sang like he meant business...Walk the Line, with its dead-on performances by Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon, helps you understand that quality."
-- Roger Ebert, CHICAGO SUN-TIMES

2. I disagree...I just saw it and LOVED it.
I thought the performances were outstanding....I guess differences of opinion is what makes the world go round.

3. As a musician . . .
Edited on Sun Nov-20-05 12:02 AM by Floogeldy
. . . I do not have high hopes. There is no way Phoenix can convincingly replicate Johnny's voice, as Gary Busey did Buddy Holly's, and, as you say, Jamie did Ray's.

That alone, I'm afraid, will spoil it for me.

I will rent it when the DVD comes out, though.

Edit: Sissy Spacek doing Loretta Lynn, too. :)
