I cold-bloodedly murdered an innocent woodland creature today,
so I could indulge in my non-evolved, inhumane lust for meat.

And I am not sorry.

1. Deer?
I won't eat it, but respect the people who hunt and eat them or donate the meat to needy families. A lot of people do that around here. It's the people who just do it for the kill and the head that piss me off.

3. That cat demonstrating to you how to live off the land?

I should have taken some pictures of the carcass pinatas for dogs hunters hang on a big frame at a motel here in my area. Sometimes I really do fear a dog or two will drop dead from exhaustion after jumping up all day, trying to bring those deer down off that rack. One dog managed to pull a haunch off a prime doe last year. It dragged its trophy up and down several streets, showing it off to dogs behind fences.

How are things?

13. Yep, it is one thing I think we have come to an understanding
about. I'm a killa, but it is better (to me, at least) than factory farmed, hormone-injected mystery meat.

And, he did not suffer, did not take another step. On what little honor I possess, I do not even get a thrill from the kill.

22. And you understand that I detest your action, yet
I don't detest you. That said, I also understand and begrudgingly agree that if you are to eat 10, 20, 30 pounds of meat (I'm guessing here) that came from an animal you killed suddenly and humanely, I have to agree that it's better than the same number of pounds of meat from a factory farmed animal.

We HAVE come a long way, haven't we, sir?

I understand your view on this matter. I'm not even sure how much meat will come from the venture, I'm guessing about 50.

And, there are no pictures.

There can be personal respect, even between people with radically different viewpoints. It is a good thing.

30. I have no idea on the math, but
how many meals, so to speak, is 50 lbs good for?

I'm genuinely curious. I won't backlash with a "you killed an animal for X meals!!!!!" type of a thing, as I think you know.

And I'm a firm believer in that you and I can fight, tooth and nail over what we don't agree upon, but God help the fool that comes between us on what we DO agree upon. So, there's nothing but personal respect.

31. My wife and I are trying to watch our portions,
so we try to eat no more than an 8 ounce serving of meat once a day.

So, about a pound a meal for 50 meals.

That is perfect-world calculation, in real life we will give some away to friends and family who may not be able to make it to the grocery store as often as we can.

And on another note, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has over 9000 unclaimed doe permits for the deer management unit I reside in. I do have plans to take at least one of them to supplement our food supply during the heating months.

And while I would expect the attacks from others, you seem to be a good guy about intelligent argument. I'm still learning that part!

34. So is that
a pound a meal per person, or total on the meal? In other words, will 50 pounds garner 50 meals? I figure it must be.

However, what you give to friends and family will also lessen the factory farm meat draw, yes? At least in a pure sense, right?

I have no idea what the deer management unit is doing where you live, so I'll just not even sniff around there.

I appreciate your statement. As for learning, you do a great job of staying civil and on-topic. However, I want to hear you say that you've learned something about discussing hunting from a vegan. C'mon...say it...

And I hope you don't, in the future, write us all off as whackos or terrorists. Even if they have an @peta.org e-mail address. I don't think you have, but, we got a deal?

38. Yep, 50 pounds for 50 meals.
And I never thought of the giving away venison as decreasing the factory meat demand. Maybe so, maybe not....it honestly is not my motive. But if it helps, that is okay by me.

I can learn things from everyone, even vegans ;-)

And there are whackos in every group, I only need to look in my own family to know that. So yep, we have a deal sir.

not as much food, and a lot of people trying to hunt them.

The northern herd is fairly sparse due to lack of food and overhunting, and tightly restricted this year.

If it was a doe, the remaining deer would thank you for helping thin the herd if they could...more food for the rest of them this winter.

We have WAY too many deer in the Northeast and it's better you eat one of them than it starve to death.

Enjoy the venison! Tasty meat that is, when cooked right.

32. In my part of the state,
rifles are not legal to use due to population density, and crossbows are limited to the physically handicapped.

I used a pawn-shop shotgun with 00 buckshot, which is nine pellets inside a shotgun shell.

No scope, no bait, no deer pee in a bottle. I just happened to be sitting somewhere that a deer walked by, which is why in all of my years of hunting I have gone home empty-handed far more often than with meat.

I normally just like to bow hunt, but time problems and moving prevented me from practicing, and I will not even go into the woods with a bow and arrow if I am not confident I can hit something cleanly.

54. I'm not a hunter but have eaten game prepared by hunters.
Those little mourning doves are especially tasty.

Texas has a surplus deer population, too. I wish the the wolves, bears & cougars would make a comeback & even the balance. Until then, regulated hunting is the best option. (The coyotes are still going strong & alligators are making a comeback.)

56. We have a lot of coyotes here,
but for some reason they make no significant dent in deer population.

They tend to clean out rabbits and stray cats, though.

I have heard packs of coyotes yipping and yowling at night from two different directions, and the closest one was just in the field across the road from my house.

I am quite fond of dove meat as well, but it is not a popular position here in Michigan.

70. The coyotes go after smaller prey.
Which is why they've adjusted well to the modern world. My sister in LA lost at least one cat to them.

My own cats have had fine lives as indoor kitties. But there's a "neighborhood cat" who gets fed--partly to protect the birds. I don't know that he's caught any of the mourning doves that are so common here. He did kill a rat--for whom I refuse to mourn.

Alligators can be a threat to small pets in some of Houston's farther-out suburbs. There's plenty of nature, even in the big city.

Thank goddess we are blessed with ample deer to nourish our spirit and body!

Congratulation.

64. I was very tempted
to take the backstraps right away, but I held off.

No ticks on this guy that I found, and his lungs and liver were normal, so no TB or other disease.

Duck sounds great. Next year I want to have some goose in the freezer as well.

69. I LOVE Deer Meat!
My late uncle served it all the time around Christmas.

Here in Avon Lake, they're all OVER the place. It's not uncommon to see them walking around in the yards of residential areas like mine. A baby one came up to my lawn last summer during one of our get togethers and the kids pet it. It was nice. Poor dislocated animal.
