Can't believe I'm going for veggie chili, but want to chill with this group of friends this afternoon and that is what the hostess is serving!

Not much of a beer drinker these days. Looking for a moderately priced wine. Thinking red.

1. Here are a couple....
...of choices:

If you're thinking red, a nice hearty Zinfandel will stand up to the chili's flavors, maybe a syrah as well. A merlot is too soft, a Cabernet too competitive.

And although I don't normally reccomend these, a blush wine might be right. Not White Zinfandel, but a dry one like a blush Pinot Noir.

Of course, Champagne goes with everthing! Pop a cork on bottle of Chandon.

Thanks for the tip. I just had a red zin the other night that I wasn't
too fond of, but I do generally enjoy them.

I think I'll go the syrah route. Good choice!

I can never go the white zin route. Oi.

2. Most would recommend a red, and normally that would be right
But when there is no meat in the dish, I prefer to render the wine according to the spicing only. My two recommendations are both whites. I suggest a Gewurtztraminer or a Vognier. The Gewurtz will stand up to the spices, and the Vognier will actually enhance them.

3. Actually, I was thinking of bringing a white also! It's rather warm
here today - unusually so for mid-November. I was thinking a bottle of white for the late afternoon/chili and a bottle of red of sitting around socializing afterwards.
