Best Cast in a movie
I'd have to go with Heat, can't beat a cast that includes the following:

Al Pacino
Robert DeNiro
Val Kilmer
Tom Sizemore
Ashley Judd
David Palmer
Hank Azzaria
William Fichtner
Jon Voight
Natalie Portman

Of course then there's the Usual Suspects with

Kevin Spacey
Benicio Del Toro
Kevin Pollack
Gabriel Byrne
Stephen Baldwin
Giancarlo Esposito

What do you think? what's the best cast, large or small, in a movie?

1. I'm real partial to these guys m'self....
John Cleese
Born in Weston-Super-Mare on 27 October
* Terry Gilliam
Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on 22 November, 1940.
* Graham Chapman
Born on 8 Jan, 1941 and died of cancer on 4 October 1989.
* Terry Jones
Born 1 February, 1942.
* Eric Idle
Born 29 March, 1943.
* Michael Palin
Born 5 May, 1943.

Whenever life gets you down, Mrs. Brown,
And things seem hard or tough,
And people are stupid, obnoxious or daft,

And you feel that you've had quite eno-o-o-o-o-ough,

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And reolving at nine thousand miles an hour.
It's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned,
The sun that is the source of all our power.
Now the sun, and you and me, and all the stars that we can see,
Are moving at a million miles a day,
In the outer spiral arm, at fourteen thousand miles an hour,
Of a galaxy we call the Milky Way.

Our galaxy itself contains a hundred million stars;
It's a hundred thousand light-years side to side;
It bulges in the middle sixteen thousand light-years thick,
But out by us it's just three thousand light-years wide.
We're thirty thousand light-years from Galactic Central Point,
We go 'round every two hundred million years;
And our galaxy itself is one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe.

Our universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding,
In all of the directions it can whiz;
As fast as it can go, that's the speed of light, you know,
Twelve million miles a minute and that's the fastest speed there is.
So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth;
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere out in space,
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth!

Brad Pitt's brief zany turn as Floyd. I always prefer Pitt in comedies. He's the best part of "Snatch"...which also has a pretty good cast.

18. IIRC, on his commentary for the DVD
he says he auditioned for the part of Clarence (Slater) which I'm glad he didn't get. He's perfect as Floyd.

I have a lot of time for Pitt though. He keeps choosing poor roles, but I think he's especially good in Kalifornia, Se7en, Twelve Monkey's & Fight Club

17. That's a great pick
Bill Murray stole the movie as far as I'm concerned. He is king of deadpan one-liners.

The whole cast had great chemistry though. IIRC a lot of the dialogue was ad libbed.

37. I love GWTW
And I have seen it 55 times (no joke), but I don't know fully about the cast. Leslie Howard is great in the role, but he is too old and refused to do a Southern accent. Now, Clark Gable can pull that off and still be Rhett, but why does Ashley speak like the Englishman he is? Supposedly because he has been in Europe for a 'Grand Tour'? hrmm...

But I love him in the movie, anyway!!! And Clark Gable is the ONLY person who could've possibly been Rhett.

56. Have you seen it on the newly restored DVD? You must!
What a difference! The colors are incredible!

You're right about Rhett--he was the first and only person they considered for the role.

I'm sure you know how they went through everyone trying to find the right Scarlet. I can't imagine anyone else but Vivien Leigh being her, though.

Lesley Howard only did the role because he was offered the opportunity to produce if he did this. He's sort of sleep-walking through the role, but in a way, that works because the character was very much a dreamer.

a Blockbuster on a Friday night and a couple was renting "Short Cuts"...which Blockbuster had in the "comedy" section. They were looking for a laid-back, fun Friday night movie -- same as me.
I told them it was a very good movie but NOT a "feel good" Friday night type of zone out and laugh movie.

51. "Get Shorty"
Which featured the following:

John Travolta
Rene Russo
Danny DeVito
Gene Hackman
James Gandolfini
Delroy Lindo
and, last but not least, my favorite actor, Dennis Farina.

The scene with Dennis Farina and Gene Hackman is worth the price of the movie, IMHO.

Val Kilmer was robbed - deserved best supporting actor for an amazing Doc Holliday

Sam Elliott - best voice in the business and my personal #1 Matinee Idol

And the weird mix of Kurt Russell, Dana Delany, Bill Paxton, Michael Biehn, Charlton Heston, Jason Priestley, Thomas Haden Church plus two Deadwood favorites: Powers Boothe and Paula Malcomson
