Need Vancouver HELP!!!
I've found an apartment in New Westminster, @$1450 Cdn/month. It's a luxury apartment.

Is this a reasonable price?

Is New Westminster a good area?

Thanks for any info you can give me! I am so OUTTA Texas!

1. "New West", as locals refer to it, isn't too bad.....
across the river in Surrey is where it can get kind of sketchy.
The price for a "luxury" apartment doesn't sound outrageous to me.
It's a Skytrain ride into Vancouver proper(15 minutes or so, if I remember right) or a crappy drive(lousy in-town traffic).

2. All I can find is the fancy type apts online.
All I need is a 2 bdrm (preferably 2 bath but 1 will do) brownstone type apartment, but all I can find online are the fancy types with soaker tubs and fireplaces and so on.

Should I take a chance, and just drive on up with my personal belongings and cat and search for an apartment when I arrive? Is there a big shortage in apts?

4. Where are you driving from?
Do you have friends where you can stay until you get situated?
When I lived in Vancouver, I lived IN Vancouver so the 'burbs pricing is not too familiar, although what you said seemed reasonable.
How long are you going for?

5. Coming from Texas, and nope don't know anyone in Van to stay with.
I'm planning to move to Van for good.

Hubby will remain in the US until next autumn, so we're thinking get me a small studio or 1-bdrm apt from February onwards, and that'll give me time to get myself set up workwise and look for a larger apt before he moves up.

8. Congratulations! Will you be working in Vancouver proper?

or in one of the satellite areas? I would check out the Vancouver Province (online) in the classified section. I did a quick check and found lots for less but most seemed to be the price range that you mentioned.

9. I have no idea where I'd be working, lol.
I'm an accountant (CGA) but will waitress if need be, I just need to go home. Lived years in the Peg, moved to Europe (UK and Germany) and lived there for over a decade, now living in Texas (since 1999) and I am having a total (and seriously bad) panic crisis ("time's running out my life is almost over" thang).

So I don't care if I can't get accounting work or if I can only get burger-flipping at A&W, as long as I'm back in Van in sight of ocean & mountains.

10. I didn't know you were Canadian!
Welcome home! As a CGA, you should have absolutely no problem finding a job. One place I'm pretty sure is looking for accountants is Sierra Systems (right DT Vancouver). My cousin works there.

11. Dual cit, but Canadian-born. A true BC baby, I am.
My CGA is way out of date, so I'd have to take at least the final year of university over again, but I can do that part-time nights with the CGA so no problem there.

But be it working as an AR or AP clerk, or a payroll clerk...or back as a Chief Financial Officer or controller, I don't care. Just as long as it's in Vancouver.

Thanks!
