Mother Offered 4 Year Old Daughter Up For Sex - Arrested

(11-11) 08:31 PST MARTINEZ -- A 22-year-old Martinez woman is in police custody after allegedly having Internet correspondence with someone who solicited sex from her and her 4-year-old daughter in exchange for $500, police said.

Shannon Nicole Woods, of the 200 block of Thistle Circle, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of offering a minor under 16 for lewd and lascivious acts. She is being held on $50,000 bail, said Martinez police detective Sgt. Gary Peterson.

Police are reviewing videotapes and the contents of Woods' laptop while determining whether they have enough evidence to charge her with a crime.

Peterson said police received tips from a citizen and from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that Woods was prostituting her daughter.

Woods allegedly had posted an ad on the Craigslist Web site prostituting herself, Peterson said. Someone who was familiar with Woods and who suspected she would include her daughter in sex acts contacted her over the Internet, Peterson said.

"Someone not in law enforcement went online and chatted with her and brought up the fact that she had a daughter and would the daughter be interested in partaking in sexual endeavors," Peterson said.

According to evidence of the correspondence provided by the tipster, Woods' response was "We'll have to see."

"Her response is the crux of the whole issue," Peterson said.

That's all. I only point it out because some people on this site (not Loungers, GD) irrationally believe that people start doing these things "for no reason," or because "they are just evil." Yeah, some folks are damn scary, sick, and evil, but they didn't just magically get that way. Not saying we should feel sorry for that criminal, simply letting people know, if you want to know why--statistically, someone like that woman is likely replaying versions of the abuse that destroyed her mental health out on her daughter. Thankfully, unless I read that article incorrectly, law enforcement got to the daughter before totally irreparable harm was done (I hope).

this is an awful story, and people certainly do this kind of sick shit. But I have to say that the story sounds kind of fishy. They arrested her on a tip that she told someone she would do this? I wonder how credible the tipster is.
