4. I think they go with the ACT moreso than the SAT.
Best thing to do is check with the colleges he is thinking about and see what they prefer.

That might solidify which he takes.

18. Not so many years....Don't age me there. Actually my neighbor's daughter
got into MSU with SAT's three years ago, I think it's only the last two that it has been mandatory.

5. Is he planning on going to a Midwest university or one of the coasts?
Midwestern schools tend to use the ACT, while the coasts mainly do the SAT, though those restrictions are loosening.

SAT subjects are verbal and math, while ACT is reading comprehension, grammar, math, and science, plus the written section.

If all else fails, he can take both, then take the best score. :)

6. What Colleges is he considering Kitchen?
I applied to Gustavus, St. Olaf, Luther, Minnesota, Augustana, North Dakota and North Dakota State. I was accepted to all of them and I took ONLY the ACT. It may be different now, but I didn't need to take the SAT at all.

23. I'd be willing to bet that ACT alone would be fine.
But you can always call the universities that you are considering and ask them.

It's not too early at all. You don't need to have him STUDYING right yet, but having him realize that this is a big deal and that it's something that he's going to have to do is OK at this point.

ACT scores. My daughter and I just learned that this weekend. :hi:

17. both
it also depends on what schools hes applying too...if hes going east then he needs the SATs if hes going midwest/west he needs the ACTs. but if he has both, it will also show the admissions a better student...

All of the schools they are applying to, in NY, take either the SAT or the ACT.
